List

[edit]

I'm watching the press conference on BBC TV News. Claim made that vessel developed a severe list and was then beached on the Bramble Bank. Mjroots (talk) 18:43, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

They mentioned that near the end of this article but that severe list could very well have been because they ran around... Ship companies always try to downplay their wrecks. EoRdE6(Come Talk to Me!) 19:02, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The BBC has now confirmed that the vessel was beached due to a list developing after they started to get underway OSUBrit (talk) 20:01, 4 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Beached or grounded?

[edit]

Was the ship beached or grounded? My interpretation is that the former is generally intentional, the latter is generally unintentional. Mjroots (talk) 00:01, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, the beaching page says: "or grounded deliberately in shallow water". I would use MV Cougar Ace but they manage to not use either word (might need fixing actually). I think grounding is more suitable because beaching usually refers to the intentional landing of a boat on the shore which didn't quite happen here. Port of Southampton Vessel Traffic Services is calling it a grounding. --Northernhenge (talk) 11:40, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page moving

[edit]

I've protected the page from being moved by editors who don't have admin privileges. The article started at MV Hoegh Osaka and was moved to MV Höegh Osaka. It has now been moved back to the original title. I'm not saying that either move was wrong, and neither was made in bad faith. Let's concentrate on the important things, such as improving and already decent article, rather than worrying over diacritics. If anyone feels strongly that the article should be at the other title, then WP:RM is always available. Mjroots (talk) 12:29, 6 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MV Hoegh OsakaMV Höegh Osaka – We should use the diacritic, and a redirect from the plain-ASCII version. This is thoroughly sourced. Also our article at Leif Höegh & Co is using it. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:43, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
