Section difficult to follow

[edit]

The section "Notable individuals arrested" is difficult to read. It's in a quasi table format, however the text runs together and combined with the use of pronouns (he) it is difficult to tell who is being discussed. Specifically the transition from Chaplin to Dake gets muddled. Van Vidrine (talk) 14:28, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Racism

[edit]

"The first person prosecuted under the act was African-American heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson.[4] He had had an interracial affair with a white prostitute named Lucille Cameron, but she refused to cooperate with the prosecution..."

This should be edited to a more neutral "The first person prosecuted under the act was heavyweight boxing champion Jack Johnson.[4] He had had an affair with a prostitute named Lucille Cameron, but she refused to cooperate with the prosecution..." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.124.11.250 (talk) 14:49, 2 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would add that the description of Jack Johnson's conviction under the Mann Act in the "Prosecutions" section of the article is inconsistent with the description under "Notable Individuals Arrested" (the latter claims that he was convicted of transporting his white girlfriend (and later wife) across state lines, while the former clarifies that he was convicted of transporting a different white prostitute across state lines). The ethnic descriptors should not be changed, as it is a notable reflection of the racism reflected in the culture at the time the Mann Act was enacted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 8.31.243.11 (talk) 00:12, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

People Prosecuted

[edit]

If this section is kept, R. Kelly's conviction under the Act in Sept 2021 needs to be added. CountryMama27 (talk) 19:44, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, just added it. --Historyday01 (talk) 22:39, 27 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't Ghislaine Maxwell being prosecuted under this? https://www.scribd.com/document/543104651/Ghislaine-Maxwell-Superseding-Indictment — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cromwell88 (talkcontribs) 03:46, 29 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Legal application section states "The Mann Act has also been used by the U.S. federal government to prosecute polygamists (such as Mormon fundamentalists) because the U.S. has no federal law against polygamy." It excludes mention of the Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act and the Edmunds Act which were upheld by the Supreme Court in Reynolds v. United States (1878) and Davis v. Beason (1890).
