I changed 'Radical author Ayn Rand' to 'Author Ayn Rand'. How exactly and in what context was Ayn Rand Radical? If the author meant that she was revolutionary in the literary world then that doesn't really have much bearing on this page. - SonicOasis 20:50, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ayn Rand could fairly and accurate be described as a "radical"...an idiosyncratic radical of the libertarian right. She sought a massive reduction in government intervention both in the economy and in the private lives of individuals. She was also a radical in her spiritual views, or rather in the lack of the same, diverging from most modern American conservative activists by remaining a committed athiest throughout her life. She was not in agreement with the "religious right" idea that the power of government should be used to force everyone to live by "Judeo-Christian values".Ken Burch 13:45, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not to glorify Ayn Rand but she was also a harsh critic of the "humanism' of the Left which killed 100 million people in the 20th century and favors more oppresion than any church ever thought off. John celona 15:45, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It would be more correct to call her "reactionary" rather than radical. 210.22.142.82 (talk) 11:41, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sproul Hall

[edit]

ok, the use of his prose in Battlestar Galactica has more info than the one sentence mention of his famous Sproul Hall steps speech. this NEEDS to be expanded. JoeSmack Talk 16:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Under his early life we have a sentence, and then the section jumps to the 1964 moment. The is bad sectioning and inadequate information. Did he work with CORE or with the budding farmworkers organizing movement? Did he go on the Freedom Riders' campaigns in the South? This needs more information! How?

[edit]

How did this guy, a spirited, impationned activist and freedom fighter, who held "modest" (yet unnamed for some reason) jobs, manage to get his kid Nadav to graduate from one of the most elitist and exclusive schools in the states, the Sidwell Friends School, alongside the clintons and gores and rumshfelds to name only a few...Makes one think abou t how smal this world is and the ties that bind us... ;)

Donald Rumsfeld sent his kid to a school run by QUAKERS? Now, that's just weird...

As to the main point of your entry It is likely that Sidwell Friends has programs whereby students deemed gifted or deemed to represent the pacifist and progressive values of the Friends tradition are given financial assistance to attend. Not everyone whose children attend Sidwell Friends is a political heavyweight or an elitist millionaire. It's rather unpleasant of you to imply that Mario Savio, who indeed needed financial help from his friends to pay for the purchase of his home when he was in declining health and wished to make sure that his wife and children would have a place to live if he died young(a possibility he knew to be very real), had secret elite connections or hidden wealth that in some way discredit him as an honorable and legitimate radical voice in U.S. history. If you have proof of your implications, you should feel obligated to print it. If you just decided to spread gossip about a famous dead leftist, you should delete it now.

hmm, did he actually do any real work in his life - you know, PRODUCE anything? or did he just flap his gums like the rest of the left? 66.87.8.163 (talk) 03:02, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

read the article ;). He taught mathematics, philosophy and logic at Sonoma State University. Kingturtle = (talk) 17:10, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're straight up not cut out to be an editor on wikipedia with a comment like this. 47.147.214.171 (talk) 08:43, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Encyclopaedic?

[edit]

I'm sorry... is this a wikipedia article or a fan page? It seems like the latter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.192.56.138 (talk) 02:00, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'm willing to hear the wisdom you've gained with your two talk pages edits over two days experience on wikipedia. What SPECIFICALLY should we consider changing? Or are you offended that an article about a political radical isn't the hatchet job you'd like it to be? MikeyLin (talk) 18:52, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Education is unclear

[edit]

The 'early life' section mentions that he went to Manhattan College in 1960, then Queens college until 1963. Later, it says he enrolled at Berkley. Section 'later life' says he went to Oxford on a scholarship (but did not finish), and returned to study at SFState in 1984 to receive a bachelor's and master's degree.

So, if I understand correctly:

  • He did not receive degrees from: Manhattan College, Queens College, Berkeley, or Oxford.
  • He received a bachelor's and master's from SF State U.

Open questions:

  • Was he kicked out of these schools? Did he drop out? Did he choose to transfer?

If anyone can confirm, I will edit the article to be less ambiguous. Thanks 71.46.57.68 (talk) 00:22, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is pure logic so you can't use it as fact, but he'd have been 2-S. Given his situation, if he'd been kicked out, dropped out or even fallen below a C average, he'd have been drafted so fast it would make your head spin. And he wouldn't be getting assigned to a desk, either. Transferred is a safe bet.

Actually, lots of people did that then. Life was chaotic. 210.22.142.82 (talk) 12:32, 29 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
