Pronunciation
[edit]With such a foreign (to English eyes) appearing surname, is there an accepted pronunciation for it? (Thinking one he prefers to be referred to by.)Cloptonson (talk) 21:45, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- His name has been in the news recently and I have heard journalists pronounce it along French or quasi-French lines, commonly as /ˈfrɒ̃swɑː/, but fortunately we have this video (see 9 seconds in) of him introducing himself. In his pronunciation it is more anglicised, as /frɑːnˈswɑː/, so I have added this to the article. Beorhtwulf (talk) 16:46, 21 December 2018 (UTC)
- I was incredulous when I saw that strange pronunciation, but on the basis of that video, you're absolutely right! Flapdragon (talk) 16:12, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Italian citizenship
[edit]The guy is an Italian citizen whether he likes it or not, by automatic operation of law. Anyone with a parent who is an Italian citizen is themselves automatically an Italian citizen. See Italian nationality law.
It has been correctly pointed out that he does not seem to have publicly asserted his Italian citizenship or a desire to have an Italian passport, so I have no objection to the deletion on these grounds, as his citizenship is impossible to verify without original research and we don't know if he has an Italian passport. But it remains a fact that he is an Italian citizen, regardless of whether he has a passport.
I would, however, contest that his dual citizenship is quite relevant in light of his Eurosceptic views - especially in light of these views. He campaigns strongly for UK citizens to lose their rights in the EU despite the fact that he can keep these rights himself.
Have a nice day all.

Under current circumstances and based on his political stance I think it is important that his Anglo-Italian nationality is highlighted. --LittleGoatGod (talk) 19:13, 8 August 2020 (UTC)
Agreed - there are too many Tory Brexiteers who are happy to claim EU citizenship or residency (Norman Lamont, Yaxley Lennon, Ghisela Stuart) but deny it to the rest of us! Gymnophoria (talk) 12:24, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
I think it should be included due to his Eurosceptisism stance and the rights that are removed from many but that he still retains irrespective of whether he alleviates himself of those rights or not. Jo Jc Jo (talk) 11:20, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
Chair of ERG?
[edit]There seems to be some discussion about whether Mark Francois is still chair of the ERG. For some reason, he has stopped appearing in parliament (although still voting, somehow!) and in the news. Bernard Jenkin has been quoted several times as being chair of the ERG, although he denies it, saying he's chair of the "ERG steering group" - https://twitter.com/bernardjenkin/status/1303596307932733447
It's unclear what's going on.. Yaxu (talk) 10:33, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- You might very well think that the prolonged absence of Penfold's stunt double from the public eye is connected with legal matters and/or a super-injunction. I couldn’t possibly comment (because it's only hearsay at this point). Mr Larrington (talk) 11:17, 19 October 2020 (UTC)
He has appeared on BBC news this morning as chair of the ERG.
- "[ERG] chairman Mark Francois praises both Rishi Sunak and Penny Mordaunt." https://news.sky.com/video/european-research-group-unable-to-reach-collective-decision-on-conservative-leader-12729156 --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 16:23, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
EPP Federalism.
[edit]The ECR group in the European Parliament was created as an offshoot of the EPP with the position of being “anti-federalism” however, this doesn’t make a duality of the EPP being federalist. The EPP has never made a resolution in support of federalism so I have referred the adjective from the article Jo Jc Jo (talk) 11:23, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
