List of characters formatting update?

[edit]

Does anybody else think that the current list of characters is difficult to read? Is there any way that we could update it aesthetically to a format that is easy to read, understand, and edit? If the general consensus is okay with the current format, then that's fine, but I was wondering if anybody else shared my feelings towards it. TNstingray (talk) 21:18, 7 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that is unappealing to say the least. IMO it should just be a table, no colors, columns dividing characters by class. — Pbrks (talk) 03:57, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the colors are really uneasy to the eyes, so this is what I think. Whoever makes the same edit with the color codes, should be blocked for a while. Anybody else wanna follow up on that? Virman1996 (talk) 14:25, 29 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Character table

[edit]

Can someone put the character table by the time the characters of the game were released by when the game came out up until now? Virman1996 (talk) 02:34, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I attempted to do that a little while back, but I ran into a couple of problems, which are reflected in the edit history, but I have decided to summarize here to have a record on the talk page.
1) There are no verifiable sources for that information, as the only place I could find it was another wiki.
2) After a lengthy (and ongoing) edit war, it was decided that a comprehensive list of characters is not worthwhile to include on this page, per WP:GAMECRUFT #6 and WP:INDISCRIMINATE.
There is an IP address that keeps attempting to revert this page back to a really badly formatted character table without any explanation. It would be different if the user(s) was willing to discuss the changes here on the talk page or in the edit summary, as myself and others have done. But now, their actions are borderline vandalism, so I request that everyone remain vigilant in keeping an eye on this page. I recognize that the subject matter is not that important in the grand scheme of things, but I want to do as good of a job as I can at abiding by the rules of Wikipedia editing. I want to specifically thank Virman1996, Pbrks, ClueBot NG, and Discospinster for working on this page the right way. I greatly appreciate your help, and this situation has greatly increased my confidence as an editor.
There are multiple accounts likely associated with the same user. If you go their contributions page, you can find that their only edits are on the Marvel Contest of Champions page. Scrolling through the edit history, it seems that this user has been involved on this page for a long time, but here are the accounts that I know we should watch for since my involvement in August– Salvo Falcatore, Multiversepedia, Wikittypedia, Prydemon, Nimrodpedia, Kitty Fury, and the IP address 2600:1700:9A92:13F0:9427:6C6E:98EE:E20C.
I'm going to look into increasing protection on this page and other measures if the cycle continues. Thanks again to everyone going about using Wikipedia in the right way. TNstingray (talk) 13:07, 13 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Just so there is a written record of all of this, the disruptive user is back with the profile name Knullive. Please discuss your changes like the rest of us have been. If you want to add the character table, please provide the reasons for doing so. Wikipedia is supposed to be a collaborative project, and we want your input. However, the current reasons for not having a character table still stand as listed above by general consensus. TNstingray (talk) 12:59, 28 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the reason for every contribution here is the desire for his work to remain. It's all about desire. This is a real sign the whole world has been ruled by Satan. Satan's servants (TNstingray, Virman1996, Pbrks, ClueBot NG, and Discospinster) are the winners. Enjoy your stupidity! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Azazelray (talkcontribs)
I am sorry you feel this way. I am trying my hardest to follow the rules and regulations that I agreed to when I first became a Wikipedia user and editor. If it were up to each individual user, this Wikipedia project would look completely different, because everyone has their own sets of unique opinions. As such, Wikipedia is meant to be a project of positive collaboration and compromise, meaning that standards and rules had to be put in place. I myself am learning every single day, and I can make mistakes, and most importantly, I have the ability to admit that both of these characteristics are true. I have tried time and time again to get your input on this talk page and in the edit summaries, but still you refuse to cooperate. I would love to be able to work with you to improve this page. As a fan of the game, I would also love for absolutely every single little detail to be recorded somehow, but that is not what Wikipedia is meant to be. You will probably not see this message for a while since you have not created a long-term account, but please do not take out your frustration on the other users I thanked in my earlier message. Insults and evil comparisons are not the ways to act professionally and courteously. Be willing to step up your game by discussing changes, providing sources, and all the other actions that Wikipedia asks you to do, if Wikipedia truly is a project you care this deeply about. Character Table Discussion 2022

[edit]

We can discuss the current disagreement regarding the inclusion of a character table here. As of now, my reasoning still stands as established last fall for this article.

1) There are currently no verifiable sources for this information, at least in the most recent version (if the table is still just a work in progress, I would recommend using your sandbox until the final product is complete, rather than a series of edits on this main page).
2) WP:GAMECRUFT details inappropriate content for video games and related video game topics. Consider #6: Lists of characters lacking secondary sourcing; #7: Lists of gameplay items, weapons, or concepts; and #10: Exhaustive version histories. All of these appear to be relevant, which is why the table was removed in the first place and replaced with the current character section with playable classes.
3) WP:INDISCRIMINATE also appears to be relevant. Wikipedia is NOT a an indiscriminate collection of information, and the emphasis should be encyclopedic value with context from explanations by independent sources. Being true, or even verifiable, is not enough.

This is my reasoning, and I await any responses, objections, considerations, etc. I work for Wikipedia to be at the highest standards of quality possible, so I look forward to positive collaboration and cooperation. TNstingray (talk) 15:48, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
