Songlist

[edit]

I just reverted an edit that changed the song list from the original London production to the current productions. My understanding from the Musical Theatre guidelines is that articles should primarily list the original production details, with changes or additions added in the notes below. Is "Subsequent Regional Productions" noteworthy?

[edit]

I question the inclusion of the section "Subsequent Regional Productions". Every show that MTI (or for that matter any other licensing company) has licensed is being shown over and over again in community and regional theaters across the country. And, while I absolutely support community theater, the inclusion of these shows does not really meet WP:Notability, especially since the only source for these listings is the theater's website. IMO, the whole section should be deleted. Feedback welcome. - SanAnMan (talk) 15:30, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Just another thought, there's no way possible that every single regional production of every play could (or for that matter should) be listed in these type of articles; if they were, these articles would all be incredibly lengthy. In fact, most other articles on theater shows only include the "major" (West End, Broadway, national, and/or international) tour details. - SanAnMan (talk) 15:38, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 16 December 2018

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Not moved. See general agreement below to stay with the status quo and leave this page title as is. Kudos to editors for your input, and Happy Publishing! (nac by page mover) Paine Ellsworth, ed.  put'r there  05:07, 27 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mary Poppins (musical)Mary Poppins (stage musical) – the 1963 film is also a musical, indeed this stage musical uses music from the film. WP:AT/WP:PRECISE ambiguous disambiguation is a bad idea, and the film is much more a primary topic than this stage play. The current title should redirect to Mary Poppins (disambiguation) -- 67.70.34.69 (talk) 06:54, 16 December 2018 (UTC) --Relisted. Paine Ellsworth, ed.  put'r there  16:18, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose, a good faith idea, but the Mary Poppins (film) is already named "film", so musical for the, ah, musical, is enough. Keep as is. Randy Kryn (talk) 10:47, 16 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per WP:PRECISE and WP:CONCISE. It's generally understood that the qualifier "musical" refers to a stage performance and "film" refers to a movie. There's no evidence anyone is getting confused. (Although I agree that the film is the primary topic for "Mary Poppins"; there is evidence that a substantial number of people are confused by the book series being at the plain title[1].) Station1 (talk) 22:02, 16 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • I would disagree with you that it is understood that "musical" automatically and completely means "musical theatre" to the audience of Wikipedia. Therefore that would mean that the diambiguated title fails the requirements of WP:PRECISE. "Musical" is in its basic form, just an adjective referring to music, and the film is the older originating source of the music, unlike other stage musicals that were turned into films instead of this being a film with its music adapted into a stageplay. -- 67.70.34.69 (talk) 22:23, 16 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. The longstanding convention on Wikipedia is that stage musicals are disambiguated as "(musical)", while film musicals add or use the word film to disambiguate them. Readers understand that a "musical" is a genre of stage work, while a "film musical" is a work released on film that is either an adaptation of a musical or is an original film musical that is similar in concept to a musical written for the stage. -- Ssilvers (talk) 17:57, 24 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per above comments. Rreagan007 (talk) 23:50, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
