1980s Mason–Dixon Conference?[edit]

I've seen several pieces of evidence which suggest an MDC existed in the 1980s. Liberty's Web site, UMBC's Web site, and our own article on a former Liberty coach all indicated that something called the Mason–Dixon Conference existed in the mid-1980s, and included as members Longwood, Liberty, and UMBC. Per a 1986 Longwood student newspaper, other men's basketball members at the time included Mount St. Mary's, Pitt–Johnstown, and Randolph–Macon, as well as the aforementioned Lancers, Flames, and Retrievers. Is this the same conference, or something different? Puritan Nerd 21:29, 23 June 2015 (UTC)

Looking into it further, this other MDC apparently disbanded in 1987 (although it might have continued into 1988), and existed as far back as Jerome Kersey's freshman season at Longwood, 1980–81. Puritan Nerd 21:38, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
After some more research, I found the answer. Another Longwood student paper article from 1983 indicates that there was a second Mason-Dixon Conference which started in 1983–84, and apparently disbanded after the 1987–88 season. Puritan Nerd 19:39, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
