General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
  • Cited: Yes - Offline/paywalled citation accepted in good faith
  • Interesting: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Pretty much meets the requirements, but I see one issue: the ALT1 hook states that when West Java governor Nana Nuriana ran for reelection in 1998, he faced sixteen competitors while I read in the article his candidacy was challenged with seventeen gubernatorial candidates running for the office – was it sixteen or seventeen? Also, I'll AGF on the sources, both of which I am unable to read. BeanieFan11 (talk) 01:16, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Juxlos and BeanieFan11: Might be just an opinion, but I am not seeing what is interesting about the hook. Bruxton (talk) 18:34, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Bruxton: maybe ALT2: ... that Banten seceded from West Java despite the latter's governor Nana Nuriana's opposition? Juxlos (talk) 05:21, 20 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Needs a more interesting hook I think. ALT2 is clumsy IMO. Bruxton (talk) 16:32, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What was the issue with ALT1? BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:05, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BeanieFan11: Well, not much exactly. Another user pointed out it was 16 total not 16+1. Unstruck. Also @Bruxton:. Juxlos (talk) 16:28, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I will promote ALT1 Bruxton (talk) 17:16, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"seventeen gubernatorial candidates"

[edit]

Juxlos: Apparently, the statement from book cited for this statement is a bit misleading. The 16 candidates that were mentioned in the book was actually to-be candidates (bakal calon) instead of candidates (calon). I've searched for some Kompas sources that I've saved regarding the gubernatorial election and here's what they say about the gubernatorial election process:

— DPRD Jaring 16 Nama Bakal Calon Gubernur Jabar, Kompas, 7 February 1998

I couldn't find more information about the names of the candidates that were able to pass through the selection process, but according to the law regarding gubernatorial elections at that time, there could be at most only 5 candidates in the gubernatorial elections.
