[edit]

This page has an inaccurate title, because the French name was not copied exactly. The party's official name (as given on their website [1]) is "Mouvement Nationale pour la Société du Developpement" which translates to "National Movement for the Society of Development" not "National Movement for the Development of Society".

I don't see a way to change the title of a page, does this require an editor's action? I've changed the name in the text.

As per the arguments presented in the above comment, I propose that the article be moved to its proper name, given that the translation is indeed found to be incorrect (this seems to be the case, but, admittedly, my knowledge of French prepositions is not that great). I am also quite nonplussed that there seems to be no actual discussion of the party's politics in the article. Bobber0001 (talk) 20:40, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It sound weird, but the french name indeed translate as National Movement for the Society of Development. It seem I can't change the it the usual way, though.--Aréat (talk) 11:58, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No longer ruling party?

[edit]

Wikipedia's front page is running the story that the President of Niger has been kidnapped and a military junta has claimed control of the country. If this is the case, then does this party still have any control? The junta announced the state assembly was dismissed but is this the only government body where NMDS have control? Additionally, earlier the President had declared he was ruling by decree. It seems to me that they are not the ruling party of Niger anymore.--Senor Freebie (talk) 08:37, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

National Movement for the Development of SocietyNational Movement for the Society of Development – The french name is "Mouvement national pour la société du développement", not "Mouvement national pour le développement de la société" so this is the correct translation. Note that it sound just as unusual in french, but is indeed the name of the party, down to the project exposed in the constitution of the 1989 which directly mention it when it was a one party state [2].
