Political background

As two time senator representing Abia Central senatorial District, distinguished Senator Nkechi Nwaogu has constantly fought for economic and social justice through her positions. In her first tenure in the upper legislative chamber, she was the Chairman Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions. As a seasoned financial manager with sound fiscal discipline, she was able to restore sanity and strict adherence to rules and order in the nation’s financial sector.

In her position as the chairman, Senate Committee on Gas Resources, she has actively pushed for greater transparency, accountability and rapid Development in the nation’s gas industry. This is due to her sincere passion to help boost Nigeria’s economy by ensuring maximum uitilization of the nation’s gas resources. To her, Nigeria has all it takes to become one of the top 20 economies by 2020 and she is assiduously working hard through her committee to ensure that such vision becomes a reality.

She has been a member of the ECOWAS Parliament from 2005 to date and was also the Executive Director for West African Region, African Parliamentarian’s Network Against Corruption, APNAC.

Senator Nkechi Nwaogu’s activities in the legislative arm of the government since 2003 have established the fact that women lawmakers have the brain, the passion, and gentleness to effectively enact laws that will impact positively on humanity. In the House of Representatives where she was elected to represent Obingwa/Osisioma-Ngwa/Ugwunagbo federal constituencies, her stunning qualities were not hidden as she stood out in all her engagements. It was this outstanding performance in the House of Representatives that endeared her to the hearts of her people. This, they demonstrated by overwhelmingly electing her into the senate for two terms.

Besides being chairman of strategic committees, this unassuming personality has contributed immensely in deepening the legislative processes through her membership in several committees both at the House of Representatives and the Senate. At the current Senate, she is a member of the Committee on Sports; Appropriation, Banking and Finance and Senate Adhoc Committee on Constitution Amendment.
