Noni Jabavu

[edit]

Hi, I am trying to contact the author of this entry. How can one of the sources (Memoirs for Ian) be obtained? I am conducting research that remotedly concerns Noni Jabavu. Many thanks. m.oralekATseznam.cz Jeff-mila (talk) 20:47, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

note that WP:V ("Its content is determined by published information...) and WP:RS ("Wikipedia articles should be based on reliable, published sources, ...") demand published sources, and this source, if truly unpublished, should be removed. DES (talk) 21:59, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The source is unpublished. The complication being that the author has died. Give me a few days to get a reply regarding email permission from a relative and hopefully it can be emailed to Jeff Mila / all be posted on a website etc. JMiall 00:13, 9 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Emailing it to Jeff Mila may help him, but neither that nor posting it on a web site counts as reliable publication for Wikipedia's purposes. This can be unfortunate, but sources must be verifiable and must have been vetted by some sort of editorial control, such as a mainstream publisher gives a work. Personal web sites are not normally accepted, nor are blogs. DES (talk) 02:05, 9 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JMiall, Thanks for your reply. I am actually researching a South African journalist who is said to be in a relationship with Jabavu during the period covered by the memoir, which therefore seems to be a significant source. If it can be got hold of, it would be a great help not only to myself. A biography of Jabavu is currently in the making and the biographer is probably not aware of the manuscript, either. It was not my intention to question the reliability of this entry. Anyway, if Memoirs for Ian get referred to in my paper or Jabavu's biography, they can be quoted legitimately even according to Wikipedia's rules. My contact is m.oralekATseznam.cz or interpretaceATgmail.com. Cheers. Jeff-mila (talk) 01:30, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
