Covers[edit]

Who, for the love of God, said Oli Frey did the Metal Gear Solid covers?! Yoji Shinkawa does them, he always has. That is his brush artwork on the covers. I mean, for god's sake! Look at the STYLES. Frey's work is NOTHING like the MGS game covers. NONE of them! Not to mention, there are no coroborating sources. I have removed that info, please do not put it back, without some major citations.

I know it says that Oliver Frey did work for Crash!, did he also do the Terminal Man comic strip inside Crash? Douglasnicol 14:32, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Name (Title of Article)[edit]

Why is this article called Oli Frey? "Oli" is what his fans call him in conversation amongst themselves and his partner and friend refer to him as Oli but none of his work is published or signed "Oli." His legal name is Oliver Frey and his books have all be published as Oliver Frey or under the pseudonym Zack.

Entitling this entry for Oliver Frey under the name Oli Frey is like entitling an article about Elizabeth Taylor as "Liz Taylor"Tomandzeke (talk) 07:16, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that this isn't the proper way to title the article. He uses the name "Oliver Frey" professionally, and that's how he's credited. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 23:23, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Major Cleanup Needed[edit]

This page needs some major cleanup work to be wikipedia standards-compliant. I'd do it myself but I don't have time. The intro section is too long, the works section is incomplete, and the categories are just a bit odd. I know this is a stub, but the formatting is just awful. --66.241.90.212 (talk) 05:49, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changed Oliver "Ol" Frey is a magazine and who worked on comic strips in the 1970s and 1980s. to Oliver "Oli" Frey is a book and magazine artist, cartoonist and illustrator. because Oli Frey continues to work past the 1970-80s into the present.Tomandzeke (talk) 10:48, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bibliography[edit]

The bibliography is missing many books. In England he worked for the War Picture Library which resulted in dozens of covers and illustrated stories before he stopped doing them in the mid-1970s. Recently, Prion Books published two volumes featuring, among many others, the work and covers Oliver painted for War Picture Library, one titled AARRGGHH!! IT'S WAR, the other called THE ART OF WAR.

Under the pen name Zack, Oliver Frey illustrated "Boy of the West End", "Boys of Vice City", "Boys of Disco City", "Bike Boy", "Bike Boy Rides Again", and "Hot for Boys: The Sexy Adventures of Rouge." "Zack - the Art" (publisher: Bruno Gmunder Verlag) [Hardcover]is scheduled to be released on a publication date of August 9, 2012.

Under the name of Oliver Frey he has been published as the illustrator of "Living in Ancient Rome", "Living in Ancient Mesopotamia", "Living in Ancient Egypt", "Living in Ancient Greece", "Living in the Ancient World Set", "Schätze auf dem Meeresgrund : Atlas versunkener Schiffe" ; Ideal für Schatzsucher und Taucher", "3-D Fun", "3-D Puzzles", "3-D Erotic", and "3-D Horror". He also had comics published.

Anyone who has knowledge of writing a proper Bibliography and is willing, should add these books to what is listed.Tomandzeke (talk) 07:16, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography[edit]

The opening sequence of the film Superman contains illustrations by Oliver Frey Tomandzeke (talk) 18:28, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pseudonym[edit]

Oliver Frey is also known, and perhaps more famously as "Zack" for his gay, erotic paintings and pen and ink drawings which are sold online (at zack-art.com.) I have added this information along with the books he had published under the name of Zack.Tomandzeke (talk) 07:16, 19 July 2012 (UTC) Added reference https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/1468223.Roger_Kean?from_search=true Tomandzeke (talk) 16:04, 11 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Scope[edit]

This is said to be "...within the scope of WikiProject Comics" He hasn't only done comic books. Oliver Frey is a openly gay man who is a serious illustrator and is more famously known for his erotic gay art. He writes and illustrates erotic gay novels. Shouldn't there other scopes as well, perhaps an WikiProject LGBT studies, WikiProject Pornography, WikiProject Sexuality or WikiProject Biography / Arts and Entertainment? Certainly LGBT studies would have a stake in this article.Tomandzeke (talk) 08:25, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Error[edit]

The article heading states "Oliver 'Oli' Frey is a magazine illustrator and artist who worked on comic strips in the 1970s and 1980s."

He is more than that and has been working productively in every decade from 1970 to the present. He didn't stop working in the 1980s as the title of the article implies.

Oliver Frey is has been active from the 90's through the time of this writing (July 2012) as an illustrator of six history books, four 3-D art books, and five erotic gay novels. He has also worked and continues to work as an artist creating drawings and paintings of gay erotic works, commissioned fine art and book covers. Tomandzeke (talk) 08:15, 19 July 2012 (UTC) IN 2013 he completed another book under the pen name Zack in the Boys of… series with "Boys in the Fast Lane". He illustrated another Zack book in 2014 "Boy of the West End". He illustrated a book "Ocean The History" in 2014. His art was included in an exhibition at the British Library this year and he was interviewed on stage at a British Library event.Tomandzeke (talk) 07:06, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality[edit]

Oliver Frey is Swiss not British although he lives in England he has a Swiss passport. Whoever wrote that Oli's nationality is British should come up with documentation/references for when he changed nationalities. He was born Swiss and that has never changed. Tomandzeke (talk) 18:21, 17 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If he holds a Swiss passport, but has lived most of his live in the UK, his nationality is ambiguous. I'd suggest that we don't apply an adjective to him, and simply describe the circumstances of his birth/life. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 19:41, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

fYI[edit]

Oliver Frey read this article about him in October and sent me an email that it is good and accurate. Since that's not a secondary source it doesn't count but it's nice to know the subject of the article says it is correctTomandzeke (talk) 09:52, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oli FreyOliver Frey – more common name (no need for disambig page with only two articles) Jason A. Quest (talk) 01:58, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 06:31, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As I said: it's an unnecessary disambiguation page. There are only two "Oliver Frey" articles (the living artist being the primary topic, over the 1930s politician)[1] and the disambiguation can better be handled by the hatnotes on each of them, per WP:2DABS. –Jason A. Quest (talk) 14:18, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The argument for the move itself is presented above. Even the dab page calls out Oliver Frey as his "real name". -Jason A. Quest (talk) 14:27, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - his homepage is "oliverfreyart", not "olifreyart" for starters. Chaheel Riens (talk) 19:12, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
