CITE YOUR SOURCES - it is as simple as that.--Jimbo Wales 22:24, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just to be clear

[edit]

WP:OFFICE is lifted on this page. Edit to your hearts content. I think it is very wise to be very cautious about supposing things about Mr. Barresi that are not _directly_ in evidence from _reliable_ sources. That he was involved in the porn industry is not disputed. That he is bisexual or personally performed in 'gay porn' I have no clue, haven't looked in imdb or whatever. If there are elements of his career in his press bio that we previously failed to mention, but which can be verified by third party sources, we should add those.

I want to emphasize a few things: Mr. Barresi has been courteous throughout this, made no legal threats against Wikipedia, and seems genuinely interested in having a high quality and neutral article about himself in the encyclopedia.--Jimbo Wales 17:55, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am unclear about what is disputed, but Mr. Barresi informs me that IMDB contains some significant errors. I'm trying to determine the details, but in the meantime, let's work with the other material first?--Jimbo Wales 00:12, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's quite possible. IMDb bios are of varying quality, occasionally amounting to little more than trivia and/or gossip. In this case, IMDb was the only source that listed a DOB. If this is indeed in dispute, I'll remove the DOB and restore the remaining stub info. --MarkSweep (call me collect) 01:08, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The article is only semi-protected, and I hope very much that someone will get excited about the article and bring it up to snuff. It used to be full of unsourced stuff or badly sourced stuff, and now it is sad and lonely and empty. --Jimbo Wales 04:53, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A note to editors

[edit]

Editors who wish to make changes to this article: Please review the archive of this talk page for some of the ongoing WP:BLP issues, as well as actions of now-banned editors previously involved in disputes about this article. Jokestress (talk) 15:50, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Involvement with Pellicano on hold

[edit]

Article has been updated slightly but certainly can be elaborated on. Barresi can no longer be involved with Pellicano as in Dec 2008 Pellicano was sentenced to 15 years in Prison.

Further 2008 updates for this article could include Barresi's comments about a popular actor in entertainment magazines such as In Touch. Helena Churchill (talk) 22:20, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, this article might not be up to date. One area where there is some question is where Barresi is helping the Bertram Fields' defense & investigation. I was not able to find a source as to if Fields is still under investigation. However, since Pellicano's case is now closed, it is likely that Fields is not under any scrutiny either. There probably needs to be some closure on this matter reflected in this article. There are a few other comments in this article with a tail end which dates back two or more years and an update is needed. 76.167.73.93 (talk) 04:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Minor but Important detail

Just going over the sources cited and made minor change to Pellicano section to make it conform better with cited source. Matt Latona (talk) 00:28, 13 December 2009

Bertram Fields & Anthony Pellicano

[edit]

The ENTIRE Pellicano section is extremely outdated! Particularly worthy of an update is the fact the Attorney Bertram Fields' investigation was back in 2006!!! Surely there has been some sort of outcome by now, especially considering that Pellicano's lengthy prison sentence started some two and a half years ago. [edit]

Of the 52 links listed for this article, many are not correctly cited though it is easy to deduce that they are a book, TV show, or X-rated VHS or DVD production. Whether as well as where ever these items are available for verification is dubious. Of the sources listed as Web links, many are either dead or they do not verify what is claimed to be stated in them within this Wikipedia article. By number listed here are some of the issues: Link # 1 = dead link, # 6= distorted / old, # 20=page not found, #23 & 26=not what they claim to be, #29=dead link, #34=dead link, #35= page not found, #36 = not a link at all/irrelevant, #38= does not support article, #40=dead link, 41=blog & irrevelant to this article, 44=does not support any claim on this article, 48= completely irrevelant to this page, 49=page not found, 50= not listed, 51 & 52 - articles which do not support claims in this WP article; URGENT CLEAN-UP is NEEDED! Cleaning-up a bit

[edit]

Reviewing all the sources cited in this article, there was some availability to clean this article a bit, starting with the Pellicano section. Still a great need to update the outdated information as the most recent citation is 2008 and most are 2000-2007 being nearly 5 years old minimum. Matt Latona (talk) 17:52, 16 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing some unsourced/poorly sourced info

[edit]

I'm looking at this article as per an OTRS request, and will be removing some instances of unsourced or poorly sourced, contentious information. All such material needs to honor WP:BLP, WP:NOR, and WP:NPOV.

Please contact me if you feel one or more removals were in error. --joe deckertalk to me 05:24, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If 'contentious information' is the issue, it ought be noted that the reference of an incident involving Andrew Morton + others in the Pellicano Section is pure hearsay. Matt Latona (talk) 18:47, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't seen any reason to dispute that, your assistance in cleaning this up is appreciated. --joe deckertalk to me 19:10, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should we edit this article for the real guy

[edit]
I am not sure I found that late last night from a link on his Wiki article. I spent the rest of the night reading all of the notes over the years about this guy in the archive talk section. Do we really even want to try to get it more objective or spend much time on this article? JoeyD2010 (talk) 23:15, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Please be very cautious in what statements get made on this talk page. This biography has been subject to WP:OFFICE sanctions due to legal threats. I have redacted some BLP stuff in your comment above. Please do not opine on the motives or character of living persons. I agree we should note that he is either a formerly licensed private investigator or remove it entirely. I would also review all of these changes to confirm they comply with policy. He is clearly notable and merits an article, but the biographical materials outside of pornography need to be extremely carefully sourced and presented. They include statements about other people, living and dead, which should all be impeccably sourced and presented neutrally. Jokestress (talk) 23:56, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Jokestress You know after reading some of that last night.... I agree as a porn actor/director he deserves a page. As for his to quote one article "self style investigators" and yes there are some very important people still alive that Barresi has appeared to insert himself into interviews about with questionable sources. I think my take is I do not volunteer enough time to become invovle in something like this and will let the link on the existing article speak for itself as it did to me when I clicked on it. I will be moving right alone to other bios.... Thanks again. JoeyD2010 (talk) 02:35, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Barresi appeared first in Playgirl then the Wild Party. His first porn film was not LA PLAYS ITSELF, but a straight film called CO ED FEVER. Barresi did not break into the porn bizz until after his Playgirl spread in 1974. The LA PLAYS ITSELF credit is wrong. He appeared also in dozens of straight xxx films like, BAD GIRLS II, DIARY OF A SEX GODESS and GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES. Why are his hetero films not noted. His appearances in gay xxx video were primarily non sex roles or solo roles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.102.213.42 (talkcontribs)

Hmm. I wonder what happened with respect to the first film you mentioned, I'm a little confused. There's fairly old references to someone with your name in "LA Plays Itself" (you can see a couple snippets at https://www.google.com/search?q=barresi+%22LA+Plays+Itself.%22&oq=barresi+%22LA+Plays+Itself.%22&aqs=chrome.0.57j62l3.2053&sugexp=chrome,mod=6&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=barresi+%22LA+Plays+Itself.%22&hl=en&tbo=d&tbm=bks&source=lnms&sa=X&ei=FB3EUOGMFonVyAGMvoHgCA&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAA&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=9b1deae9e667e29e&bpcl=39650382&biw=680&bih=416 ), I'm half-tempted to wonder if there's another Paul Barresi out there. Or if an error was made in 1994 and it's just being replicated. Or what. Hmmm. --j⚛e deckertalk 05:13, 9 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There is a Paul Barresi in Australia who is making a name for himself as a local polititian. He was born in 1947. The birth date of this Paul Barresi is not accurate; he is older than 1949 birth! Dooor-Matt (talk) 19:37, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

BLP

[edit]
I think that given Mr. Barresi's (if that's really him) objections, the article should be checked for neutrality. It is over half negative, after all. Coretheapple (talk) 01:37, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am grateful that other editors have taken the challenging task of cleaning up this article into hand! I feel the CNN article should be cited. However this is an encyclopedic article and should be NEUTRAL as mentioned above. Making this article neutral is daunting. With reference to Barresi's early life and post Pellicano sentencing, it might also be noted that Mr. Barresi was banned from his own father's funeral in 2011, http://www.mediabistro.com/fishbowlla/paul-barresi-arnold-schwarzenegger-sylvester-stallone-eddie-murphy-lemoore-california_b42204
I feel also that comments containing vulgarity and personal attacks ~above~ should be removed from the talk page. Dooor-Matt (talk) 16:48, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) Collect's removal included some copy-editing of a veritable petting zoo of WP:WTA violations, but it also deletes a lot of references and material based on them, some for being dead links (which we should remember is not actually the same as unsourced, though I can see in this context why people don't want to take someone's word for what they said) and others that aren't even.

Genuinely a miss at Google and Ixquick. Bing finds a result with the cover image [4] and the Wikipedia article John James Nazarian (which points us at the first link and [5]), and notes that "some results have been removed". Yahoo identifies it as a 2007 MAGGIE winner [6] and points at different article for the phrase [7] which is criticizing Scientology, never a safe pursuit; one line at [8]. Yandex found an additional abstract/index at [9]. Nothing new on Blekko. Ask.com found an additional result (not a RS!) Given the fairly hostile way some of the text is written, and the selective use/misuse of data from some of the sources, I appreciate the need to go through things carefully, but let's not destroy the village to save it - at some point people need to go back, run through this list, see which sources are irretrievably bad, which ones are archived somewhere, etc., and regenerate some neutrally written text based on many of these. Wnt (talk) 18:16, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I went through above and sorted out the links. Note that the people putting in "dead link" were really not looking at all - it would have been just as easy to update the link to a live one as to put the tag, because all you had to do for most of them was search the headline in any engine! Thank you for fairness. It appears our society prefers rather much too often to highlight the confessions of ones defects rather than any magnificent achievements one garners. Sad. I am 75 in a few months. The notion that an editor would characterize me in the current as a porn actor is disturbing to me. How bout highlighting the things Paul Barresi has done over the years with the benefit of clothes. lol. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C51:747F:B308:7CD3:781B:6F06:2971 (talk) 20:21, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

CONTINUING FM PAUL BARRESI... I couldn't help but notice the kinder language used to describe my old pal Bill Cable's adult film career. He is characterized as an 'Actor' period-- in erotic films. Not once is pornographic used on his page.

See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Cable

Most of the work I worked in was soft core photo layouts. Bill had one of the great natural bodies of all time. He died much too young. Bill and I were both Colt models. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:6C51:747F:B308:7CD3:781B:6F06:2971 (talk) 01:19, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

He is a 'former' porn actor

[edit]

Following the pattern at Ron Jeremy, Jenna Jameson, and presumably many others, I have edited this article to improve accuracy and also due to the BLP issue that once people have left the porn business, it is reasonable to accord them the dignity of so noting it in terms of how we refer to them. Heck, we even do this for former politicians, haha. Jimbo Wales (talk) 14:10, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
