It says he owns 1 of the 399 enzos, but aren't there 400 enzos that were created? Where did 399 come from? Thanks for answering!!! --Theelectricchild 01:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

399 were made, see Ferrari EnzÒ. they made 349 then 50 more apparently.

Voltron??

On australias video hits this morning, pharrell said that he is involved with a live action voltron remake in some way. does anyone know anything about this?? --Adam aka. Cho03 13:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Trivia

One point said "On the ABC show 'Nightline' Pharrell said, 'I could always visualize what I was hearing' and 'It was always like weird colors,' suggesting he may have synesthesia." This should be deleted because 1) "Wikipedia is not a dumping ground for speculation" as set in the Trivia Guidelines [1] and 2) Users adding their own original ideas or arguments without a source goes against the 'No Original Research' policy. [2] Although it sounds interesting, personal theories shouldn't be published here unless cited. Spellcast 19:33, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

pharrell does not equal the neptunes

most of this article is written about the production duo the neptunes.. yes pharrell is the frontman for PR, and the only one to rap/talk on neptunes produced singles.. but how much Chad does and how all that works out i don't know.. i get the impression its all (mostly) pharrell but thats probably wrong? anyway.. officially at least its 'the neptunes' not 'pharrell'.. so most of the content should be moved to the neptunes article rather than here?.Bungalowbill 15:20, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Yea as relevant as it would be to keep the info on Pharrell himself, it's kinda hard to write about a lot of the music production without also mentioning The Neptunes, unless someone can show otherwise. Spellcast 21:53, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is pretty bad for Wikipedia to use this photo and addition it could be a copyright violation. Prior to that image, Wikipedia used this Image:Pharrell.jpg. It has 7 more days until it gets deleted. It is either that or find an image that is copyright friendly to use. --J. Nguyen 03:00, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

Awards & achievements

I've created a new 'Awards and achivements' section with 5 tables (Grammy awards, Vibe awards, BMI Urban Music awards, Billboard awards, & Source awards). If the list gets too long, I propose possibly starting a new article titled 'List of Pharrell Williams awards'. Spellcast 10:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Nerdcore?

How is Mr. Williams nerdcore? I've heard a few of his songs, and none of them seem nerdcore at all (to me, at least). I only noticed that because this page is linked to from nerdcore. Jadgz Self Aggrandizement

Some rapper named Jagdz or something to that effect posted what is basically a press release inside of this wikipedia article. I've deleted it. Furthermore, the tone of the paragraph was out of place, constantly referring to "game" and other jargon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.228.177.220 (talk) 23:56, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Synesthesia

The part of the article that says he's a "known synesthete" is not accurate. From what I've gathered, he's never been diagnosed with synesthesia. He's said that when he hears music, he sometimes sees things in his head. That's not synesthesia. I can see things in my head when I listen to music, but I'm not a synesthete either. Basically, Pharrell has an active imagination, and watches the discovery channel.

He's described synesthesia as such: "Synesthesia is stimulated by sensory deprivation, like when the showerhead is making so much noise it blocks out everything else. Once the senses are blocked out, then your mind is free to run wild and think about whatever."

Now, it's obviously just my opinion that he's not a synesthete, and I'm no doctor. But given the fact that he doesn't really seem to understand what synesthesia is, and I haven't seen an interview in which he describes actually being diagnosed with it, I think to say he's a "known synesthete" would qualify as hearsay, so I'm going to remove mentions of him being a "known synesthete" from this article, and the article on synesthesia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dog13ert (talkcontribs) 22:32, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Pharrells associated acts

I wanted to check if anyone agreed to Pharrells associated acts. Can Snoop Dogg? Busta Rhymes? or Madonna be added? - Slivermennn67 16:25, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't be against adding Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes. Not sure about Madonna, though; correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they just work on Hard Candy together? I don't think that would classify them as associated acts. — Σxplicit 18:12, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Ethnicity

I heard that Pharrell is part asian...I'd believe it because he looks it. I'm just curious to know how and if it is true.Pharrell is not asian but is refererd as asian due to his appearance and a few people he is seen with.

I would believe that he might be. He's done a few songs with the Teriyaki Boyz and can be heard saying a few words in Japanese. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.94.62.90 (talk) 09:04, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

"He most recently[when? — see talk page] wrote and produced 'Why Should I Be Sad'... "

"most recently" is certainly unclear. Is this still "most" recently? How can anyone tell?

Mdbrownmsw (talk) 05:16, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Right Now Pharrell is going to different countries and what not. Performing with his band N*E*R*D. And he is supposably working on a new album with nerd coming out in early 2010. He recently showed at a performance one of their new songs called "soldier". He didn't want to show any more because he said he wants it to be a surprise. Right now they are going to Denmark. 8/15/09 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.110.122.202 (talk) 05:12, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Love Life

This section on rumors/speculation/gossip deleted as it doesn't meet 'Wikipedia:Bio of living persons' policy. Relationships should be cited with a reliable source! There's nothing wrong with adding relationships here, but if this keeps being treated like a tabloid mag, it has to go. Spellcast 13:46, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

Pharrell never talks about him being in relationships, or with who he is with. Sometimes he talks about relationship experiences but thats it. At one point there were rumors of him having a girlfriend, her being pregnant, and them getting married. Pharrell just laughed and said that he's married to the music.

He did have a relationship with one girl where the went there seperate ways. And she's the reason for the tattoo on his neck of an angel. He said that he felt he needed an angel to look over his shoulder since the onne he had was gone. So he got a tattoo of an angel watching over his shoulder. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.110.122.202 (talk) 20:02, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Statistics

In the article, these statistics are mentioned, along with a reference: A survey in August 2003 found the Neptunes produced almost 20 percent of songs played on British radio at the time, a survey in the US had them at 43 percent.

However, the author of the original article referenced, Mel Campbell, has recently written about her attempt to track down the the original source of those statistics. Despite a lot of digging, she was unable to find anything substantial. She writes about this in depth at Junkee.[1]

Given this, I think that sentence should be removed as it appears to be unsubstantial. On the other hand, if anyone can find a solid reference for these statistics (dating from 2003), then the article could be updated. Robyn2000 (talk) 23:59, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Synesthia

Pharrell has this condition, where the brain connects two senses into an augmented ability. In Pharrell's case, he has the combination of music and visual colour. He addresses this on his album "Seeing Sounds". It's a central part of why he is an ultra-talented musician. Beethoven had the same ability, which helped him compose music even after he went deaf. --dnsla23 19:48, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

Split Awards and nominations into new article?

Section is confusing and awards keep stacking up. This makes this article to be unnecessarily large and difficult to read. I suggest splitting this section into new article named List of awards and nominations received by Pharrell Williams.--Chamith (talk) 03:57, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

@ChamithN: I agree with you, and since there's been no opposition in over a month I'm going to remove the tag from the article and if you'd like to begin the split, I don't think there would be a problem! Gloss 21:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Identity shifting

I've noticed that throughout the article Mr. Williams is identified as Pharrell AND Williams. I realize, as an artist, he has gone by both his full name and just his first name. I believe the wiki guidelines encourage consistent usage of last name after the first full name mention. I thought to change all uses after the lede to Williams, but would like input from others before I spend the time to make the changes if they are going to be reverted without consensus. Thoughts?THX1136 (talk) 15:43, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Pharrell Williams

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Pharrell Williams's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Hot100":

  • From Kanye West: Kanye West Album & Song Chart History – Hot 100. Billboard (magazine). Retrieved November 30, 2010.
  • From Somebody That I Used to Know: Trust, Gary (18 April 2012). "Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used to Know' Roars to No. 1 on Hot 100". Billboard. Prometheus Global Media.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 14:27, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Trivia section

  1. the Trivia section should not feature anything that is already in the main body of the article, or already in the trivia setcion elsewhere
  2. information in the trivia section should be cited.
  3. The information should be significant; it should be kept as brief as possible, featuring only those most interesting and/or unique elements.

Production year

His first production was in 1994. before that (ie 1992) he only (once or twice) wrote songs, or featured as backing vocals. see The Neptunes discography.

Pharrell worked with...

He has worked with a LOT of people. all of them cannot be stated in this article- thats what The Neptunes Discography is for. again, if it is something significant/unique, then it may fit in the article (eg, artists he got a #1 with)

keys etc

"microKORG, synthesizer" these intruments are not significantly different enough from "keyboards." It's like saying he plays "guitar and a electric guitar."

Pharrell is not a guitar player. Neither he nor Chad could play guitar before "fly or die" so Chad, not Pharrell, spent a year learning so that 1 of them could actually play guitar for that album. He has said so in interviews. So it shouldn't say "he plays guitar". Is not a guitarist.

To Do:

  • Add info on "Surrounded By Idiots" to biog - group featuring Pharrell and Timbaland [3] [4]
  • Get a copyright-free image of him..
  • The first paragraph has an incorrect usage of the verb "comprise" that should be fixed. Members compose a group, not comprise.

An undue credit

Pharrell is not a guitar player. Neither he nor Chad could play guitar before "fly or die" so Chad, not Pharrell, spent a year learning so that 1 of them could actually play guitar for that album. He has said so in interviews. So it shouldn't say "he plays guitar". The most he would have done with a guitar is hit some odd simple notes and record them over his music, in a way that anyone without any ability or knowledge of the guitar could. Is not a guitarist.

Falsetto

I added Pharrell to the "Falsettos" catagory, because he does, indeed, sing using the falsetto technique.

Brooklyn Machine Works

He's an owner/part of owner of New York-based bike company Brooklyn Machine Works. if I could find a reliable source, I would add that, but I can't. so someone should consider putting that in

Countertenor

I have removed any mention of Williams' being a "Countertenor" from the page because he is NOT. He sings exclusively in falsetto. Before you change it back, please consider if you have any idea what you're talking about. The Guardian is a tabloid, its writers are not musicologists or even particularly knowledgeable about music--and don't claim to be--so it's not a credible source.

Thank you.

He is working with Game for The R.E.D Album and is at the moment his best hip hop friend i think Game must be on the Acts of Pharrell.

Game and Pharrell also will be collabrate on the first official single of Tyga's second studio album Careless World.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Careless_World

The first official single will be released soon titled "Really Raw" which features Game, Snoop Dogg and Pharell.

Confirmed Songs

   * I'm On It (featuring Lil Wayne; produced by Calvo Da Gr8)
   * Really Raw (featuring Game, Pharrell and Snoop Dogg; produced by The Neptunes)

Half Pipe and skateboarding

The cited article only mentions the fact he has a half pipe in his home, and not the fact he's a skateboarder. He is, in fact, a rollerblader, as evidenced by the interview about his background in the sport.

Edit request: in sentence in opening summary ‘His second album, Girl, was released in March 2014 and was included the commercially successful single, "Happy",’ please remove the second occurrence of the word was so that the sentence runs ‘His second album, Girl, was released in March 2014 and included the commercially successful single, "Happy".’ As the page is locked I cannot do this.

Addition of UJAM to Business Ventures

From the information I have been able to find:

In 2009 Pharrel Williams co-founded UJAM, a company that develops software tools for Music Creation, together with Hans Zimmer and other co-founders.[1][2]

The source for this information is not from a peer-reviewed journal, but from more general-public sources like a music information online magazine, and a business information magazine. UJAM also notes the information in many of their press releases. The sources aren't ideal but the information is useful, there is no controversy about it that I could find, and for business information of this nature it is unlikely that it will be published in a peer-reviewed journal. I believe this would be an useful addition to the page. Please indicate if there are objections/concerns Ecrz (talk) 01:31, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Addition of "also referred to mononymously as Pharrell"

Pharrell Williams is at times referred to mononymously as "Pharrell," often enough and by substantial enough publications that I feel it warrants inclusion in the lead.

Here are just a few reliable, contemporary sources referring to Williams by this monomym:[6] [7][8][9] 64.203.244.11 (talk) 17:47, 24 March 2023 (UTC)

Fashion designer

I'm restoring the mention of the subject as a fashion designer in the lead. As much as I dislike long lists of occupations, Pharrell is undeniably a fashion designer. His work goes far beyond routine fashion collaborations; he is the Louis Vuitton men's creative director, replacing Virgil Abloh, which is a rather prominent position in the field.
