Why does this article exist?

Seriously, what purpose does this article serve? We have Occupation of Japan for the immediate post-war period, and we have Shōwa period and Heisei period for everything else. We also have another completely redundant and even more difficult-to-justify Post-occupation Japan. How much redundant redundancy to we redundantly need?
