Assessment
[edit]I have rated this a Start Class, as I believe many areas need expansion and much of the lead needs to be incorporated into a main body article. I have rated it of low importance, as it is unlikely that many readers are familiar with the topic of the article. Cheers, CP 23:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Queen's Gaels → Queen's Golden Gaels — The name has NOT been officially changed, as per multiple media sources -- thus Wikipedia should refer to it by the name that the department itself admits is the official one, Golden Gaels. Kingston's biggest media sources, as per the department's word about what the "official" name is, continue to call them the Golden Gaels. Queen's Gaels should be considered as a nickname that the Athletics Department uses, but which is not the actual name. Tyking (talk) 21:18, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- Support I agree with Tyking that the Queen's Public Relations department announced this as a marketing plan and it's somewhat clear that they have not changed the name of the team. The Queen's PR department released this marketing plan that would emphasise the word "Gaels" and drop the word "Golden" from uniforms and marks but put more emphasis on the gold colour and plainly stated, "We have not dropped the name 'Golden Gaels'". I believe I may have reverted some early changes to try use that pr release as an excuse to rename the team. However, it has been a year now and I wonder if the PR department's release has made progress in changing public's perception of the name of the team. Not scientific but here's a comparison of Google News search of the last month's articles.
- I still say the official and publicly recognised nickname is Golden Gaels but there should be an full explanation in the article that the current promoted label is Gaels. DoubleBlue (talk) 22:11, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
- I think such an explanation does now exist via the "Name" section I wrote. Tyking (talk) 22:00, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that does it well. I was just mentioning it here in the context of whether a move was a good idea. I think as long the two versions of the name are explained factually and neutrally it is fine and the Name section is good for that. DoubleBlue (talk) 04:50, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

- Support — Obviously, the Queen of England isn't a corporation (or... maybe she is?), but the parallels to WP:MOSTM are easy enough to draw. We won't move Wal-mart yet, for example. WP:CRYSTAL is really the most appropriate citation against the move right at this moment.

Orphaned references in Queen's Golden Gaels
[edit]I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Queen's Golden Gaels's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 23:16, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
