Fair use rationale for Image:VernorVinge RainbowsEnd.jpg
[edit]Image:VernorVinge RainbowsEnd.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot 05:11, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Hugo Award
[edit]Since this novel has now won the 2007 Hugo Award, I suggest the importance of the article be reviewed. Metamagician3000 13:46, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. I've changed this to a mid-importance article since most previous winners are at that status. Not to mention that Vernor Vinge is a successful sci-fi author. Iansmcl 01:36, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Links
[edit]The link to http://vrinimi.org/rainbowsend.html was removed in a previous edit, the reason being "in probable violation of copyright". However, a brief search of domain registry records shows that vrinimi.org is registered to Vernor Vinge, the author. See http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?domain=vrinimi.org for reference. Will T Brown 15:02, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Citation
[edit]I just added a citation to this page where I saw a citation needed tag. Hopefully I did this right. I remembered Vinge talking about it during a presentation at long now. The URL is in the citation I created. If there's a better or different way to do this, please feel free to review because I'm not sure I did that according to convention.. but the content is there and applicable. Jerzy Hacek
[edit]Minimal importance here, but the name is loosely inspired by the Czech háček (ˇ) diacritical mark and well-known Czech author Jaroslav Hašek (The Good Soldier Schweik). In Czech, the c of 'Hacek' would be a 'ts' sound, but Vinge gave no canon pronunciation. -- Ahazred8 (talk) 01:11, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Rainbows End (novel) → Rainbows End (Vinge novel) – I know that this one differs from the others by not having an apostrophe, but I think that adding the author makes it clearer on searches, seeing that there are two other novels of the same name (with apostrophe) (see Rainbow's End (disambiguation)). - Oppose per WP:SMALLDETAILS. Or, even if we ignore that guideline, there is only one other novel with an article, not two, and even if they had identical titles, this one would be the overwhelming WP:primary topic (see pageviews). There does not seem to be a problem with the current setup. Station1 (talk) 07:28, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. Differentiating main title headers of English Wikipedia entries via accents, diacritics or punctuation is insufficient, even taking WP:SMALLDIFFS into account. Thus, the adjoining parenthetical qualifiers — Rainbow's End (Cain novel) and Rainbows End (novel) — appear unbalanced and it would seem more intuitive if both Rainbows End (novel) and Rainbow's End (novel) were judged to be incomplete disambiguations and redirected to the Rainbow's End disambiguation page.
As for the dab page entry "Rainbow's End (Grimes novel), a 1995 novel by Martha Grimes", which redirects to Martha Grimes#Works, since it has no article and barely a WP:DABMENTION, its link is misleading users into thinking that this novel has an actual write-up. Ultimately, it would be more intuitively listed on the dab page as "Rainbow's End, a 1995 novel, see Martha Grimes#Works". —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 17:08, 21 January 2024 (UTC) - Support per WP:SMALLDETAILS - what the guideline actually says, that small details usually aren't enough.
