I find the title part 'conservationist' totally misleading and in appropriate
[edit]It misrepresents the character of Ralph Edwards and skews the perspective of his life both in regards to his goals and achievements. This is in noway to disparage him but I think his primary motivation was to live and survive in a place he had chosen with the means available to him and succeeding in that for some 50 years before he gave up. I doubt that what we today see as 'nature conservation' was high on his priorities and in any case I think it is demeaning to title him and his life with the word conservationist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.147.20.2 (talk) 11:12, 16 April 2018 (UTC)
- I don't think it is "demeaning" to call him a conservationist, but I agree it was far and away not his primary notability claim. He was best known as a pioneer homesteader. I initially titled the article "Ralph Edwards (homesteader)" but someone else changed it (without discussion) and I didn't bother fighting it at the time. Unfortunately to change it back will now require a WP:RM procedure. -- GreenC 13:17, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Ralph Edwards (conservationist) → Ralph Edwards (homesteader) – Restore to its original name. It was renamed without discussion (by a now-blocked user for "battleground behavior"). While Edwards did do some conservation work late in life, he was best known as being a self-sufficient pioneer - he built and made everything himself in the wilderness. Anyone who has read the books about him, or seen the film, will know this. He was famous long before the conservation work which was secondary, came late in life and was mostly managed by his daughter. See also comment above by anon IP who is in agreement. - Support—I was about to oppose, but saw that "homesteader" doesn't mean merely that someone lived in a homestead. Tony (talk) 06:01, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Neutral: It's unclear, in our article, why this person is actually notable. Yes, there are RS about the person, but our own text doesn't make it clear whether this person is known more for conservation work or for settling vacant land. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 16:12, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- The bulk of the article concerns his life in the wilderness as a self-sufficient homesteader. This is supported by the primary book about him Crusoe of Lonesome Lake (1957), and his appearance on This is Your Life, both of which occurred long before the swann conservation. And watch the documentary linked in the article. The first 30 seconds asserts why he is notable. -- GreenC 21:47, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
