The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No consensus to move. The question that should be discussed here is whether "S. H. Kapadia" or "Sarosh Homi Kapadia" is the term English-language reliable sources generally use, and there appears to be no consensus about which of those is more common. S. H. KapadiaSarosh Homi Kapadia — Relisting. --RegentsPark (talk) 16:32, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What I could understand from Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people), the full name, "Sarosh Homi Kapadia" should be the title of this article. Joy1963 Talk 08:06, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ભારતના ચીફ જસ્ટિસનો કાર્યભાર સંભાળતા કાપડિયા in Sandesh
  2. વ્યર્થ પીઆઈએલ માટે આકરો દંડ કરીશું : ચીફ જસ્ટિસ કાપડિયા in Divya Bhaskar

Then, let me refer to some English news reports:

  1. Next chief justice Sarosh Homi Kapadia is a finance whiz in DNA
  2. Sarosh Homi Kapadia to be India's new chief justice in Hindustan Times
  3. Frivolous PIL will attract huge costs: New CJI] in The Hindu
  4. CJI shouldn't express views on hot issues: Kapadia in the Times of India

Further, let me refer to some Hindi news reports:

  1. सरोश होमी कपाड़िया भारत के नए चीफ जस्टिस in Navbharat Times
  2. सबसे बड़े जज और बड़े फैसले in Dainik Bhaskar

In future, I will try to refer to the news published in all other Indian languages to convince you that the common usage is "Sarosh Homi Kapadia" only. Joy1963 Talk 16:08, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. व्यक्तिवेध : न्या. सरोश कापडिया in Loksatta
  2. सरोश कपाडिया नवे सरन्यायाधीश in Maharashtra Times

Thanks but what's needed are a representative sample of consistent usage in English news reports, not just a few select examples. For example, a Google News search like this or the standard usage of major Indian news outlets. For example, although some Times of India articles use his full name (as in the example you gave), most don't as reflected in this list of results. As for the Hindi and Marathi examples, English Wikipedia should reflect local English usage, not other languages (per WP:UE). — AjaxSmack 17:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • The question is what should be the benchmark for "consistent usage". Is the Google Search is the only standard way to judge it? Kapadia is from Mumbai and almost all local English language newspaper from Mumbai mentioning his full name in most of the news items, which is not properly reflected in the Google search. Let us browse through some more newpapers:
  1. Justice Kapadia sworn in as CJI in Mumbai Mirror
  2. Justice Sarosh Kapadia appointed CJI in Business Standard
  3. Justice S H Kapadia appointed as new CJI in Indian Express

Also some news channels:

  1. Sarosh H Kapadia appointed new Chief Justice of India in Zeenews.
  2. Sarosh Homi Kapadia is new Chief Justice of India in NDTV.

Even the Bombay High Court website mentions him by his full name:

Else, in the Supreme Court of India website:

This debate can be endless, as like any other North Indian name (and unlike a South Indian name), the newspapers and the news channels will constinuously refer him alternately by his initials and full name in future also and calculation of percentages of the both usages (as well as Google Search results) will vary. • Comment Not sure if Sarosh Homi Kapadia is the common name. Curiously the Supreme Court of India names him as "Hon'ble Mr. Justice S.H. Kapadia" [1], in its list of Judges, it has names with full name also. [2]--Redtigerxyz Talk 04:56, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
