Article section on relationship to homer/greek myth

[edit]

I've had my eye on this section as problematically unencyclopediac for quite some time; however, I finally got round to cutting it today impelled by two findings:

  • The sentences referenced to Anne Carson's If Not, Winter were far too closely paraphrased for my liking
  • One of the references to Rutherford did not appear to be supported anywhere in Rutherford's book.

I don't have access to the sources other than Rutherford and Carson, so I can't check to see how close the paraphrasing is there. Either way, I've written up a small amount discussing how Sappho presents her Helen and how that compares to Sappho's contemporaries to somewhat replace the deleted sections; I'm not entirely happy with them, though.
