Portrait

[edit]

The portrait shown (by Ozias Humphrey) is misidentified. It is probably a portrait of her mother, the Countess of Westmorland, who was also named Sarah. The error comes from the linked source given on Wikimedia Commons for the image, which is an art sale catalog that identifies the sitter as "Sarah Villiers, Viscountess of Jersey" (no such person ever existed). The date of the portrait is given as 1786, which is probably correct based on clothing style. Sarah Fane, the daughter (subject of this article) was born in 1785, and the portrait looks similar to other portraits of Lady Westmorland.

I would fix it but I don't have an ID on Wikimedia Commons. Will someone please take care of this? Laura1822 (talk) 10:22, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Was wondering if whoever originally wrote this page could add a reference to "Sally" please? I searched initially for "Sally Jersey", and couldn't find anything.

In many Georgette Heyer novels, she is referred to (however incorrectly) as Lady Sally Jersey (rather than Sally, Lady Jersey). I think this nickname might have been to distinguish her from her mother, who was also a Sarah. I'm also interested in the fact that Sally's daughter Sarah married "Nicholas Paul Carl [Miklós Pál], 9th Prince Esterhazy (1817–1894)". This appears to be the son of fellow Almack's Patroness Princess Esterhazy, and I would love to see a cross reference and some more details in the Wiki article on him? Many thanks

Georgette Heyer is a secondary source

[edit]

Georgette Heyer cannot be cited in relation to Sarah Jersey's nickname as Heyer is a secondary, and far more recent, source. Zoe 05:33, 30 December 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zoe Buchanan (talkcontribs)
