Titles as a sign of respect

[edit]

I removed several occurrences of Shihan an Sensei from the article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject_Martial_Arts#Honorifics and academic titles. My edit was undone [1] with comment "as to include the titles show signs of respect to these men". Did i interpret the guidelines too strict? Please comment. --Leo Laursen ( T | C ) 13:17, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, those titles are inappropriately POV, and unencyclopedic. If relevant, it is appropriate to state that "John Smith currently holds the title of shihan...", but they should not be written as "Shihan Smith..." Note also that the rule at WP:WPMA#Honorifics and academic titles (or any of the conventions of the wikiproject) is not binding on its own merits, except that the wikiproject convention on honorifics is simply a restatement and extrapolation of the actual rule at WP:NAMES#Academic titles, where the title Shihan (and especially Sensei) are analogous to titles like Doctor, Professor, Father (for priests), etc... OK, and thanks. --Leo Laursen ( T | C ) 17:44, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shihandai

[edit]

Shihandai is not a rank, it is simply an hounerific that is used to anyone who is training someone one on one for some time.121.72.245.138 (talk) 08:17, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
