how has the research gone? It seems like you have a good start, have you found any data about Tv shows and hashtags? -Ian

The research has been going great since I started. Yes I have found better data about Tv shows and hashtags. - Quincey

Hey there, great start to the article. You can also talk and expand on how social media has effected the way that TV and TV shows market their programs. --Nicole1290 (talk) 20:32, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Nicole, I was able to fully discuss this in my article. - Quincey

Great article. Since this was back in 2012 updating the social media stats from Neilson would be helpful to know where we are at as of 2016 Jalisamharris (talk) 18:27, 30 July 2016 (UTC)jalisamharrisJalisamharris (talk) 18:27, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I was able to update some of the information with updated media stats. - Quincey

This is a great start to the article. I would say that you need more information than what you have. Also, In the first sentence you say "Social media technologies allow for television to be accessed and shared in a variety of ways." It wouldn't be JUST televsion, rite? It would be more than that. Also with the article being from 2012 you would want to update some of the information here since it is now 2016 to keep it fresh. All of your citations are up and running and backed up. You could also add Instagram to your list of social media sites I see that, that is a big one missing that alot of people use. You could also expand on some points that you bring up like the social media sites because there are A LOT more out there now that a lot of people are using. Critique of article for Mass Com Course

[edit]

I found this article to be very informative. While discussing Social Media and Television, the authors used a variety of subcategories such as promotion, ratings and approaches, etc. At times, this article felt slightly outdated. This stood out to me most when I read about "The Roast of Donald Trump," being the first television show to use on-screen hashtags while on-air. This show premiered back in 2011. With my own personal bias as an avid television viewer, promotional material has evolved much further than this. For example, you can now Shazam commercials in order to garner information about advertised products. Even when the article referenced the show "Shameless," it premiered back in 2011. I also felt this article was trying to tell me how great social media is, when integrated with television; rather than explaining it neutrally. I found words like, "better," "phenomenon," and "obviously." The only point that was obvious was how biased the article felt. Timothy Cecere (talk) 15:54, 15 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Timothy Cecere : Nice job with the article critique. In your work on the article for the course, see if you can include information from sources you find, such as articles and books from the library, that delve more into recent developments with social media and T.V. (such as Shazam). Also, it would be good if you can work on improving the neutrality of the article by removing some of the bias-sounding words and statements. October 9, 2017 Everything I spoke about in the paragraph below has been completed in the Talk Page of my Sandbox. I have written a draft that I plan on uploading under the Promotion section of the article. This is the link if anyone has any opinions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Timothy_Cecere/sandbox Timothy Cecere (talk) 20:34, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

October 1, 2017 I will begin to remove any biased sounding phrases within the article. I would also like to go into more detail about the way Shazam works and how it is used when paired with television. I will also provide the difference between typical Mass Media and Social Media. Reality Television seems to be the plain where the two collide the greatest. Lastly, I will discuss it's impact on society and how people are starting to "treat computers, television and new media like real people and paces." Critique of article for Mass Com Course

[edit]

Great article, but I definitely think some of the stats in the article could be updated along with some of the tv shows that are referred to. For example, the jersey shore is used as an example in this article, but the jersey shore has not been in air for some time now. I also think updating the stats about Facebook regularly would be ideal because Facebook is always improving and making changes. In this article Snapchat Stories were talked about, but now you can make Instagram Stories and Facebook Stories, so i think it that should be included. KristenRoberts (talk) 19:55, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KristenRoberts : This is a good article critique. In your research for this article for your course project, see if you can find updated examples. You may also want to look into whether there are new ways that social media is being used with T.V. that hasn't been included in the article. For example, the content in the "Real-time video posting" section is relativley new. You may want to look for articles on this that you can use to expand this section. As you mention, you could also look into including information on types of social (like stories in FB and Instagram) that have been left out. Adding Content to Promotion Section

[edit]

As part of my COMM course, I've been rewriting some of this article primarily from the promotion section. I'm deleting the paragraph starting with "In the era of social networking..." because I've added substantial revisions and data to the old paragraph. In addition, I'm also adding 3 paragraphs to the section as well. Please take a look at this work and let me know if you have any feedback. Timothy Cecere (talk) 16:56, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Comment to Drmies

[edit]

·        Hi Drmies / CC: Shalor (Wiki Ed): I am teaching a class on Mass Communication this semester at a college in Brooklyn, NY.  A student (Timothy Cecere) in the class has been working on the Social media and television page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media_and_television#Promotion), specifically the Promotion section, and had recently added content to the live page.  The last few weeks, was working to research, write, and revise this content in his sandbox and had recently posted to the Social media and television Talk page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Social_media_and_television#Adding_Content_to_Promotion_Section) asking for feedback on his work as he post to the live page.  I noticed that you had removed the work.  I would be grateful if you might be able to provide feedback for him on his sandbox Talk page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Timothy_Cecere/sandbox) so that he could revise and re-post his work to the live page while making sure that he's abiding by Wikipedia's standards.  Thanks so much for your help!  Best Regards, Prof.bgreg (talk) 15:57, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Editing and Adding a Section to this article for Media Studies Course

[edit]

I am taking a college Media Studies course on Technology and Culture this semester and our semester-long assignment has been to edit a Wikipedia page that has to do with our course topic. With that being said, I am going to add a section to the article, as well as edit some of the existing sections to keep the information up to date. Along with this, I am also going to add some revisions to the existing sections, as well. I would be very grateful if you could take a look at this work and let me know if you have any feedback. 9u5t1n3 (talk) 02:15, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
