Greuther Fürth

[edit]

I'm not sure the German FA has anything to approve or disapprove of in this case, as the stars are not worn over the badge but are indeed part of the clubs logo. It would seem that the rules regarding the number of stars does not apply then. Madcynic 13:31, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the use of stars is outlined in the DFB's updated uniform policy. I have a copy of it somewhere as a reference. There was a detailed version of the updated policy on a previous version of this page, but it seems to have been nuked. Go back to one of my earlier edits and you'll see what's what. I'll get to restoring it (I guess) a little later. Greuther is now entitled to their star, as are non-Bundesliga sides, including former DDR champions and women's teams. Wiggy! 13:59, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not unless the rules have been updated since Nov 2005; those rules (in German) are on the DFB website. I updated the rotted link yesterday to the clothing regulations [1]. I also updated Verdiente Meistervereine. The DFB rules allow one star with the number of titles within it, similar to the UEFA badge of honour. This only applies to leagues directly under the DFB jurisdiction; the Bundesliga (top 2 divisions) are under a separate organization, the DFL, which controls the Verdiente Meistervereine rules. Greuther Fürth are in Div2, so under DFL rules, not DFB, and thus entitled to no star. Under DFB rules (if say they get relegated) they could have one star with "3" inside (rather than 3 stars). As to the "above-the-logo" versus "part-of-the-logo" debate, I think that's also the basis on which a blind eye is turned to Dynamo Berlin's 3 stars. I think "unapproved" is still an accurate description of the situation, whereas "disapproved" would perhaps be too strong a word; no courtcase is pending AFAIK to force clubs to comply.
On a related note, does anyone know of any lower-level club which actually implements the DFB single-star system? I can only go based on web pictures; no club kits I've seen have the single inscribed star. jnestorius(talk) 15:16, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's pretty much a confusing situation then, isn't it? Although your explanation of the situation seems clear enough. "Unsanctioned" maybe? I believe I'll just stand back and let the smart people sort it out. Thanks for the info. Keep well. Wiggy! 15:29, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So I see that Dynamo has made first use of the new system in a pop-up on their homepage by displaying a single star marked '10' over their team crest. I've only noticed it in that one instance so far ... Wiggy! 02:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

USA Universities

[edit]

Some mention could also be made of US Universities. For example, Indiana U. has won 7 NCAA titles, and has 7 stars on the jersey. (St. Louis U. has 9 titles, but I don't know whether they have starts as well.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.31.20.76 (talk) 01:31, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Boston College wears 4 stars on the back of their Hockey sweaters to indicate their 4 NCAA Championships, as well. Achowat (talk) 16:33, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

England

[edit]

I amended the date England first wore the star from 2002 to 2003 as the game in question was 29 March 2003 v Liechtenstein.Statto74 (talk) 13:47, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stars on Uruguay badge

[edit]

It states Uruguay first introduced stars on its badge as soon as 1930, but I find this unbelievable, as in WC 1990 in Italy it appears they didn't have them. So can someone find source when exactly Uruguay started showcase their 4 stars on badge? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.245.253.100 (talk) 11:32, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake in the article

[edit]

In this section (AFC) There is a mistake. This link Shows that stars are part of the logo And registered with the logo (This website is for Judicial system of Iran, The Place for Registration of trademarks and logos in Iran).
So This isnt a badge, this is club logo! Also check this image (Esteghlal Volleyball club also have stars!) Clutching (talk) 19:24, 16 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Where is Linfield fc?

Slovan?

[edit]

In the article stands that Slovan Bratislava has 1 star (Awarded in 2009, the star represent 5 titles.), but on their crest stands 3 stars. And I can't figure it out why 3... Their honour list looks like this: Czechoslovak First League - 8 titles, Zväzové Majstrovstvá Slovenska - 5 titles, Slovak League / Slovak Super Liga 13 titles. So the 3 stars can stand for the 18 slovakian titles? I found no reference on the internet... --Fmvh (talk) 07:32, 25 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

current league of clubs

[edit]

Hello,

There are a lot of clubs listed and some information like the current league in which they play isn't up to date. E.g. Union st-Gilloise is set as playing in the third division of Belgium, while they got promoted to the first division this year.

This article needs major editing

[edit]

Entire sections, like NBA teams, are ostensibly about "number of stars on badge" but are really about "number of championships won". NBA teams don't put a badge with stars on their typical uniforms. I suspect that many of the other teams listed don't wear stars on their uniforms to represent championships. This article is dominated by list cruft where representative examples would suffice.
