Etymology
[edit]The name probably means "Lake of the Yellow Stream" in Uyghur or Chagatai. This is just me looking up the phonetic components in related languages (namely Uzbek and Kazakh) as Uyghur dictionary is hard to come by:
- sarigh - yellow (e.g. Uzbek wiktionary:sariq)
- jilga - stream (e.g. Kazakh wiktionary:жылға)
- -ning - genetive case (e.g. English possessive or "of")
- kol - lake (e.g. Uzbek wiktionary:koʻl)
