Fair use rationale for Image:Cover thegirlismine2008.jpg
[edit]Image:Cover thegirlismine2008.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Conflicting information in the Say Say Say article
[edit]Cross posting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Say_Say_Say#Conflicting_information_in_The_Girl_Is_Mine_article Gripdamage (talk) 15:40, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've reworded the section of the "Say Say Say" article. Pyrrhus16 16:34, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
conflicts in "not impressed"
[edit]This article is confusing about the reaction of the black community.
In the first paragraph, it says:
"Some of Jackson's black listeners were not impressed by "The Girl Is Mine"; they felt that Jackson and Quincy Jones had created a song for the white pop audience."
There is no citation to back that up at all. And is it relevant? I'm sure some of his white, chinese, and iraqi listeners weren't impressed either.
Then later the article seems to quote itself and says "Listeners were not impressed by "The Girl Is Mine"".
First, who wasn't impressed - blacks, or listeners in general? second, where is the citation? And third, obviously listeners WERE impressed because the song became a hit.
I didn't change anything because I'm hoping the party that inserted those will add citations or remove the confusing portions themselves.
Sunshinesquad (talk) 08:22, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- I've removed the 'black listeners' part. As you can imagine, Michael Jackson articles are receiving a lot higher traffic than normal, making it harder to remove unsourced statements while staying within the 3RR rule. Pyrrhus16 08:29, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well I removed the edited version ("general public") entirely. It read very poorly considering the next few sentences in the articles lists how popular it was and how much it sold. It did get a number of bad reviews and criticism in the press, so if one wants to put a summary sentence saying that specifically (if they feel those details in the "Reception" section need summarizing) I guess that would be OK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dammitall097 (talk • contribs) 13:06, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
- I read your revert claiming the cite. I see it, but I think it is a stretch to extrapolate that reference to some listeners as being the "general public" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dammitall097 (talk • contribs) 13:18, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Number one hit in Spain?
[edit]I thought I read somewhere that "The Girl is Mine" was a number one hit in Spain, but I can't find the source nor is it mentioned anywhere in this article (not even in the charts). Was this really a number one single in Spain, and what source is there to confirm that? --From Andoria with Love (talk) 21:53, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm afraid I can't find any sources documenting it. Pyrrhus16 18:33, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Couple of reverts
[edit]The edits of Pyrrhus16 have been reverted, as: (1) Album tracklists are an important feature - this is why they are part of the template. One of the reasons the Thriller album is so great is because of the song selection and order. (2) As stated in the edit summary, the Thriller 25 version is called "The Girl Is Mine 2008 with will.i.am" and the artist is called Michael Jackson. This is taken directly from the CD sleeve, which I am holding right now. This is consistent with other MJ remixes, and also most remixes by other artists (ie the original artists remains the sole artist, and the remixer's name becomes a part of the song title) (3) A 5" is nonstandard, vague and misleading language. It was a CD. Let's say so. (4) It's important to point out that this was Jackson's last CD single in one of his most important markets.
- I agree with the rest but feel the need to make two reversions: I'm changing back the section header to "The Girl Is Mine 2008" because it is the the most commonly used title. Secondly, I'm removing the mention of the song being Jackson's last single. Though the statement is true, it is not backed up by a source, making it original research. Editors can easily find out Jackson's last single by looking at the singles template. Pyrrhus16 18:42, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Solo version
[edit]There is a version of this song that's 3:16 and sung by MJ alone. I found that one on last.fm, no longer online. Does anyone know where that version was originally released? 85.179.20.128 (talk) 18:30, 7 July 2011 (UTC) Hans
