Fair use rationale for Image:TGCompass PS2 front.jpg
[edit]Image:TGCompass PS2 front.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

- Wow. This bot does not seem to be very smart if there's already a huge description on the pic. Look at it! Kimera Kat (talk) 14:44, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Recent "edit war" concerning J.G. Hertzler's voice credit
[edit]Let me begin by apologising profoundly for the frustration, ilk and ire I have raised. I am NOT savvy in the ways of this thing called "Wikipedia". All I know is, that it is a very large database of knowledge, and that J.G. Hertzler was irritated that he is not "credited" for his contributions on the game "The Golden Compass". I was completely unaware of all the rules and concerns I was "violating" in making what I thought....honestly thought....were minor edits. When my edits "disappeared" I assumed I'd failed to save my work, so I made the revision(s) again. I'm sincerely embarrassed this gave the appearance of an "editing war". I can see how that perception would arise. Additionally, I was admonished regarding a potential "Conflict of Interest", in that I referenced that JG Hertzler is my "client". I felt that was more appropriate and professional than divulging the personal nature of my relationship to my "client". I do act as J.G.'s publicist, agent, and attorney, however, it is "off the books". Notwithstanding the foregoing, I can understand a perceived potential CoI.
I've been advised of my missteps, and the suggestion was made that I resolve this matter here....on the game "talk page". Here is what I'd like to have added in the most appropriate manner possible:
1) J.G. Hertzler provided the voice of a few minor game avatars: a bear, a dockworker foreman, and a scholar. Here is the citation I used: http://voicechasers.com/database/showactor.php?actorid=9878
Again, please accept my most sincere apologies. I did not intend to create this controversy.

- I've removed all voice credits from this game. The voice actors do not need to be highlighted in the summary as the video game is not a star billing-driven game. According to WP:VGSCOPE item 11: "Cast lists: Generally speaking, a list of the actors providing voices, likenesses or motion capture acting performances for video game characters is not appropriate. If mention of the actors is an important factor of the article, typically they should be done in the article prose, and generally in the development section (good examples are: Batman: Arkham Asylum, Portal 2, and BioShock Infinite). Exceptions to the rule would be games where the video game cast is notable, such as actors reprising their roles in a video game translation of a film. In this case the video game cast follows the general standard for listing a film cast, but should only list the major characters in the plot, and as a rule should be no longer than 10 actors.". So based on this, minor game avatars are not appropriate for the list, but also the main voice actors are also not appropriate for the Golden Compass list as they are not the ones from the film.
- However, Hertzler's article can have a filmography that lists The Golden Compass as one of his works he voiced in. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 17:20, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- Looking at the closing credits for the game, I don't see any of the actors being specifically credited on any particular roles so it would have to be sourced in another way. It just says "The Golden Compass Actor Credits" and "Actor" and then gives a list of names, of which Hertzler is certainly listed there. I suppose it could be primary sourced by his resume or twitter. You could also file an OTRS and it would reference that. But do not use IMDb as that is user-generated and not verified. Voicechasers might be okay. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 17:27, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
- I've added The Golden Compass to his filmography and it is sourced there too. Please feel free to add and source his other credits. AngusWOOF (bark • sniff) 18:24, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
