Name of article
[edit]This article says about district of Republic of Abkhazia. There is no such administrative unit in Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia. The official names of district are: Abkhaz: Тҟәарчал араион and Russian: Ткуарчалский район. It sounds like Tquarchal arayon and Tquarchalsky rayon. The offical abkhazian site uses name Tquarchal (1, 2). So we should use Tquarchal District for the name of article about administrative unit of Republic of Abkhazia. Tquarchal district → Tkvarcheli district – The only and correct name of this town and its district is Tkvarcheli and Tkvarcheli District, this is the district of the town Tkvarcheli so its name must be represented in correct form. See sources (Google books) ► Yearbook of the United Nations 2005, The Guns of August 2008: Russia's War in Georgia, People from Tkvarcheli District, Resolutions and Decisions of the Security Council g. balaxaZeႫ 17:18, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support. Per WP:COMMONNAME. I would like to see any reliable third-party sources referring to the district as Tquarchal. I did a quick search for all possible transliterations at Google Books. Here are the results: (1) Tquarchal district – 0, (2) "Tq'uarchal district" – 0, (3) "Tkuarchal district" – 0, (4) "Tk'uarchal district" – 0. On the other hand, we have (1) "Tkvarcheli district" – at least 8 (excluding Wikipedia mirrors). Google Search for "Tquarchal district" outside Wikipedia yields essentially no results, while "Tkvarcheli district" is used by the reliable third-party sources published in English such as BBC, United Nations Security Council, United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, The Central Asia-Caucasus Institute and Silk Road Studies Program Joint Center (Institute for Security and Development Policy), ICG (International Crisis Group), United Nations News Centre, etc. --KoberTalk 18:15, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

- Comment Thank you Kober for a nice argument. Results are limited for all forms of the name, but it does seem like you suggest that looking through various transliterations, Tkvarcheli has more. The most common Abkhaz form seems actually to be "Tkwarchal", found elsewhere for example in [1]. I reject however the assertion (and the reason given for the recent moves) that any particular name is more "correct" than another, given they are all merely particular transliterations from different languages. Irrelevant to what title this ends up at, it should note the different names in the lead, rather than the complete whitewash that both the recent moves, and the old 2009 move, were.
