[edit]deleted as dubious and unclear. Does "Anthony" really rhyme with "Donny"? — kwami (talk) 19:53, 8 February 2014 (UTC)
National team debut
[edit]OK, I'm getting unsure about when Rantie debuted for South Africa. A previous version of the page said his debut was on 2012-06-09 against Botswana, but the source link was dead and FIFA records for that game show him as an unused sub. Also, sites like Soccerway and Transfermarkt show his first national team game to have been a friendly against Gabon on 2012-06-15. All things considered, I edited the page to claim the Gabon team as his debut since that was the only thing I could find support for.
Now, another user removed my source link to Transfermarkt saying it's not a reliable source. Fair enough, so I went to see if I could find another source that does not only show Rantie played and scored against Gabon, but also that it was his debut. Had a surprisingly hard time to do so. I *did* find a match report on africanfootball.com which shows a live report from the Gabon game, that includes this comment: "A lovely throughball from Serero puts Rantie clear and he provides an emphatic finish. A goal in just his second international appearance!" There's some blog-like website that claims the same thing, which I could disregard as probably taken from Wikipedia, but a live match report *should* be less likely to have such an error. Still, if it's accurate, and if the original Wikipedia claim came from somewhere reliable, and also the FIFA report from the Botswana game is correct, that certainly begs the question when Rantie's debut actually took place.
I don't have an answer, and also initially touched on this page somewhat tangentially, so I'm not immediately planning to spend any greater length of time researching the matter. However, since I did edit the information which may now appear in question, I thought I could at least post. For now, I'll leave the Gabon game as his debut since I don't see any records of him playing in an earlier game, meaning that should - on current information - be the least spurious claim.
