Cosgrove was one of three Maryland players approached in the fall of 1952 by another student and offered bribes to hold down the score of a game against LSU. I am having difficulty fitting this season in the timeline, since he was a senior in 1951 and drafted in Jan. 1952. I'm not going to work it out, I leave this to someone else to sleuth. Cosgrove, for the record, was offered $1,000 and immediately notified authorities. Carrite (talk) 18:00, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I wrote up a section on the 1952 gambling scandal. I still don't know why he had five seasons at Maryland, but he apparently did. Beyond that, I figured out the mystery connection with the Baltimore Colts, which I initially believed to be a hoax. For the record, Cosgrove never played a single down in a regular season NFL game, but is very clearly WP Notable for his college career and place in the 1952 gambling scandal.
