Name
[edit]The current name is too long to type; isn't Yikatong a much easier name to remember? I suggest we rename the page as such. NoNews! 08:18, 15 April 2010 (UTC)

Beijing Municipal Administration and Communications Card → Yikatong — Too long to type; use the more common and favourable name "Yikatong" as per WP:AT (since all the cards have different "official" names and it is better just to use their most common name). NoNews! 10:04, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- Support Appears to be the common name. Skinsmoke (talk) 07:14, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Beijing Municipal Administration and Communications Card
[edit]Beijing Municipal Administration and Communications Card isn't a good translation in my opinion.
Firstly, 交通 in this context should be translated as transportation, not communications.
Secondly, it's the Transportation Card of the Beijing Municipal Government (Administration), not the Beijing Municipal Administration and Transportation card.
On the card itself:
市政 City Government
交通 Transport / Transportation
一卡通 "One Card for Everything"
A better translation would be "Beijing Municipal Government Transport Card". Why are we calling it Beijing Municipal Administration and Communications Card? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sych (talk • contribs) 07:38, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Yikatong → Beijing Municipal Administration and Communications Card – Procedural request, moved from WP:MRV. Apteva (talk) 05:15, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Or to Beijing Municipal Government Transport Card
- Or even better, to Beijing Transportation Smart Card
Yikatong (一卡通, literally all-purpose card or multi-purpose card) is used in many situations, such as credit cards, mobile phone cards and so on. Therefore I think we should move it back to the long but accurate name. MakecatTalk 11:03, 5 November 2012 (UTC) (copied from WP:MRV)

- Oppose, for the moment - can't really see the problem with what is listed in Frommers and a few other English sources. Beijing Municipal Government Transport Card Beijing Transportation Smart Card are certainly out since this is more than just transport - even though, fair enough, "Communications" is just PRC English for "transportation." The Kaohsiung Rapid Transit Corporation has an I-Pass which has a disambiguating Yikatong article in zh.wp, but en.wp doesn't have that article. In ictu oculi (talk) 03:23, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose If yikatong means "all-purpose card," how is that inaccurate? --BDD (talk) 19:28, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
- My understanding is this is the equivalent of a New York MetroCard or a BART card, a Beijing Transportation Smart Card.[1] Apteva (talk) 05:28, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- This article talks about all purpose uses.[2] Apteva (talk) 05:36, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
