Zoom Edits
[edit]Hi, I updated the Zoom (car sharing) wikipedia page to include more details on the company's business model and expansion. I noticed when you removed this information you noted that it seemed like a prospectus, meant for investors. The only reason I added these sections was because our model is based off of Zipcar and I naturally based our Wikipedia page content off of Zipcar's page, and Zipcar's page contains information about their model (in the membership section) and a section called expansion. Do you have suggestions for how I could edit Zoom's "business model" and "expansion" section to make it more appropriate for Wikipedia? Thanks. Ak042687 (talk) 03:20, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- WP:COI and an attendant promotional tone have been a concern since the article's creation. Perhaps further input from objective editors would be helpful at the article's talk page, so that any overzealousness on my part in removing problematic content can be checked. Any thoughts, user:Drmies? JNW (talk) 10:59, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- Not right now, JNW, except to say that you're usually right--time for class (Sir Gawain today), and I think I got that bug that kept two of my children up all night. Good thing they're all on spring break. Oh, "Barack" is in Amsterdam (he and the Dutch PM are, apparently, on a first-name basis) and asked when you were coming. Sorry, Drmies (talk) 14:24, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
I can modify the text, but I would like to include some details on how Zoom operates (the content that was in the business model section). Again, it is not for promotional purposes, but more so to include comprehensive details about the service (similar to the Zipcar wikipedia page). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ak042687 (talk • contribs) 15:13, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
- The "business model" section removed by JNW earlier was way too detailed and non-neutral. There is a fine line between promoting and giving appropriate detail, and I think this crossed it. It's a judgment call and we should probably err on the side of caution. Drmies (talk) 16:45, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback. The reason this section ("business model") is so important is because Zoom is India's first car-sharing organization. It's a very new concept as all car rental in India is chauffer-driven and rented by the day. Zoom offers self-drive (i.e., no driver) and hourly rental. Hopefully a more comprehensive Wikipedia page that explains the service (business model), can educate Indian society about car-sharing more broadly. The page as it stands (without a business model), does not include any details about the service that Zoom provides. What are your suggestions for the below text that I would like to include under "business model"? I cut some of the details that were in the previous post. I also placed the corresponding Zipcar text in parentheses so as to compare the neutrality and details of both posts.
Zoom provides car rental by the hour or by the day. Zoom services are designed for self-drive and thus drivers are not provided. (Zipcar text: Zipcar is a US membership-based carsharing company providing automobile reservations to its members, billable by the hour or day. )
Rental costs include fuel, insurance, GPS, and tax. Zoom locates vehicles throughout Bangalore. (Zipcar text: The reservation includes driver's insurance, a gas card for the car, reimbursements for fuel obtained at gas stations that do not accept the included gas card, and up to $15 in reimbursements for typical car maintenance items like car washes and window wiper fluid refills. )
All vehicles also have All-India permits, meaning that the vehicles can travel throughout India. (Zipcar text: A member can reserve and use a Zipcar in any Zipcar city.)
Zoom members reserve a vehicle through the website or a mobile app and can use a credit or debit card for payment. Zoom cars also come with GPS-equipped tablets. (Zipcar: Members are able to view vehicle availability and reserve a self-service car via the internet, iPhone and Android applications, or telephone, in increments as short as thirty minutes and pay only for time they reserve.....Members can reserve Zipcars online or by phone at any time, immediately or up to a year in advance. Zipcar members have automated access to Zipcars using an access card which works with the car's technology to unlock the door, where the keys are already located inside. Zipcar also offers an iPhone or Android application that allows members to honk the horn to locate a Zipcar and unlock the doors.[5] Zipcar charges a one-time application fee, an annual fee, and a reservation charge. Gas, parking, insurance, and maintenance are included in the price.[6])
Headquartered in Bangalore, Zoom is expanding both in Bangalore, and into India’s major metropolitan hubs, including Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad.
(Zipcar has an entire section on expansion and this is one sentence: In July 2013, Zipcar continued its expansion into San Diego and Denver. The addition of these two new cities marks Zipcar’s availability in 23 major metropolitan markets throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Spain and Austria. ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ak042687 (talk • contribs) 03:51, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Zoom or Zoomcar?
[edit]The article uses Zoom as a reference to the company name at number of places. It is confusing given the popularity of Zoom, the video conferencing application. Shouldn't the references be changed to Zoomcar across this article. I believe that's the popularly known name of this car rental company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nitin.35 (talk • contribs) 13:58, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
"Self-drive"
[edit]Changed the article so "self-drive" doesn't hotlink to self driving car as that is not what the company offers. "Self-drive" seems to be a thing you need to specify in car rental in India, meaning you drive the car yourself rather than have a chauffeur.
