  • ... that Megumi Nakajima (pictured), who is best known for her role as Ranka Lee in the anime series Macross Frontier, is half-Filipino? Source: "Official website profile" (in Japanese). A quick look, and willing to review later (!) if nobody beats me to it. Substantial GA on good sources. Why don't you use the other image in the article? The 2 presently in it are too similar, for my taste. I like the performance one for the DYK, as it gives a good idea how such a thing looks. Why say Filipino half but not Japanese? Don't assume we know such a thing. I find nationality not interesting at all and would simply say what she is known for, - the image will "sell" her hook. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:58, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
David, could this be cropped to see more of here, and not the "black" at the bottom? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:00, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Saying some one is "best known for" is just a big deal, which should be taken care of, notably when it comes to the Wikipedia main page. Also, as Gerda Arendt said, Why don't you say she's Filipino-Japanese? --Mhhossein talk 11:26, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
Back to reviewing, still some questions, including about the article, which are suggestions which you can follow or not. Prose: "These family influences would later be cited as among the reasons she would decide to pursue a career as a singer." I believe that the sentence is completely redundant. If you want to say something, how about "These influences were later cited as among the reasons for pursuing a career as a singer."? Or: "Her family background influenced her decision to become a singer."? Check the article for the word "would" and erase it when not really needed. - In the lead, I lost patience with the details of auditioning. I'd prefer when she started that, and next when being productive, the rest is no lead material, imho. Better say something about hiatus and comeback. - "as the character Ranka Lee", - please repeat in what that was, don't rely on readers remembering that you mentioned it in the lead. "music debut", - how about saying "recording debut", or was the performnce no music? - Awards to infobox? (Seems more important to me than height.) - "She responded that she felt that had few expectations about herself", - sorry, I have no idea what that means. - "will release on her birthday" will not work on that day, please remember changing then, of word differently, such "... is planned for ...". - "she initially had a complex with her voice", - again I have no idea what it means.
After having read the article, I don't see how "known for that Ranka Lee role" is supported by the article, and certainly not "best-known". Please change the article or the hook. I'd prefer a source which isn't her website. Any reviews of what she does. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:45, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
Reviews of voice acting roles in Japan is hard to find, even in Japanese. With that said, while not currently mentioned in the article, this source (which is in the article) calls her role as Ranka "iconic", which at the very least supports if not implies ALT1, plus much of the article talks about the Ranka role which I guess also implies it; I can make the relationship more explicit if you want. Per Mhhossein's suggestion, I've added the Filipino-Japanese thing as ALT2. The reason I focused on her ethnicity is that it's relatively uncommon for people of foreign descent to become well-known Japanese voice acting industry. There are other examples, including Romi Park and Pile who are half-Korean, Sarah Emi Bridcutt who is half-Australian, or Yuri Komagata and Mark Ishii who are also half-Filipino, but they're a minority. I'll think about making the changes to the prose; I disagree with merely focusing on the role since I don't think focusing on that by itself will appeal to those unfamiliar with anime. Also, the lede already mentions her hiatus and comeback. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:27, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
Ok, understand implication. I strike the first hooks because you really can't expect us to know from the titles alone that it has anything to do with Japan. What do you think of putting less focus on the ethnicity?:
ALT2a:... that Megumi Nakajima (pictured), a Filipino-Japanese voice actress, is known for her role as Ranka Lee in the anime series Macross Frontier?
In the lead, I find too much detail for the audition, while comeback is much less detailed. I wasn't interested in so much detail in an introduction to basic things about her, but may be the only one.
I approve ALT2 and ALTa and leave it to you or the prep builder to pick. The image is nominated for deletion, we better don't rely on it. - The same thing happened to me for proposed hook for Easter in the German Wikipedia, and it's still not deleted. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:02, 15 May 2019 (UTC)
Oops! I had not seen the portion of Gerda Arendt's comment saying the file is nominated for DR. --Mhhossein talk 12:50, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
@Mhhossein: If in case the image is either deleted or otherwise unsuitable, we have the image below that could be used(which is actually the image which was originally used as the article's infobox picture); that or the cropped version that's in Commons too. The second image is licensed, and shows well in small size, with ALT1 or ALT2. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:24, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Narutolovehinata5 Mhhossein Gerda Arendt Can someone please check whether the original image is also now resolved as usable? I'm working on the hook set for this date now and that's a much more interesting image. The info at commons doesn't seem to have been resolved yet, but it's been ten days --valereee (talk) 18:14, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this without the image, but ALT2 and ALT2a are more self-promotional than hooky. The article also names other roles that she is "known for". May I suggest a different idea?
  • ALT3: ... that Megumi Nakajima became so associated with her role as Ranka Lee in the anime series Macross Frontier that she feared she would be unable to establish her own identity as a voice actress? Yoninah (talk) 09:47, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Sounds okay to me, my only concern is that it might sound too negative a hook, especially for one that's supposed to go up on her 30th birthday. Up to you to approve it or not, though. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 09:49, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
approving that one also. I don't find saying for which role one is known promotional, and I don't find ALT3 "negative". Sorry that I can't help with image licensing, - beyond my expertise. I had the dream of this image for a German Easter hook - bright and abstract - but it's still up for deletion. I feel we should have run it anyway, especially as the priest at the altar was buried the day after Easter. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:01, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
