  • Created and nominated for DYK on the same day, and is just over 1500 bytes, satisfying date and length criteria. I'll assume good faith for the Wall Street Journal reference, to which I have access to only the first two paragraphs. The text is supported by the supplied references. (However, I would format this ref using {{cite interview}}.) Hooks are suitably short; I'll assume good faith for the original (the first 2 paragraphs of WSJ only state she wanted to study science, source 1 states she was a biomed student, and in the interview in source 5 she states she has a university degree) and ALT1 (in the paywalled portion of WSJ). Trillfendi has already stated a QPQ will be forthcoming.
  • The only reason I'm not immediately promoting this is because, in my opinion, there's a bit of padding: the career section has two long lists of brands, and a shorter third list; and phrases such as "Her parents both work in the financial field, with her father being an accountant and her mother a loan officer" could be simplified by excluding the leading portion. You can add a bit of text by expanding the intro, shifting its second sentence to the career section, then summarizing the rest. (For example, something like "she has walked for numerous global brands and appeared on the covers of various fashion magazines".) Mindmatrix 20:51, 3 November 2021 (UTC)
@Mindmatrix: I added to the article info that which was available. For what it’s worth, the Journal reference says with her degree in biomedical engineering then goes on to talk to her about some alternative career prospect as a scientist; I’m not in the business of throwing my own opinions of people’s careers into the article, in fact, the list only give just a few notable examples that were verifiable. • @Trillfendi: Well then, this seems good to go (paywall hook reference accepted in good faith). No preference for either hook. Heythereimaguy (talk) 20:08, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
  • @Heythereimaguy and Trillfendi: I don't quite like either of these hooks. ALT0 seems to play on the idea that fashion models are stereotypically dumb—as if she's "one of the smart ones". ALT1 is kinda of dull story; we've all heard of an actor or other entertainment-industry performer quitting their day job waiting tables. I've suggested an ALT2, would that work? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 22:41, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
@Theleekycauldron: Grey’s Anatomy was my other idea (though I assumed it was too reliant on Grey’s popularity or something). Many models these days have scientific degrees, that’s what I was trying to highlight, not that models are stupid and one-dimensional which is a tired trope. Examples include Adesuwa Aighewi, Julia Nobis, and Anok Yai, Lyndsey Scott, Nadja Bender, and Riley Montana. Trillfendi (talk) 00:36, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
  • @Trillfendi: it is a tired trope; I didn't think you meant to play on it. I'm not sure if there's a way to get across the message you want to send on that one, unfortunately—and Grey's is popular enough that it should be fine, if not astounding. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/them) 01:02, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
  • In my honest opinion, I think that ALT2 is the most interesting. Should we go with that? Heythereimaguy (talk) 13:01, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
  • Want an image? --GRuban (talk) 16:22, 12 November 2021 (UTC)
  • Well it's an image, could work for DYK. Heythereimaguy (talk) 12:27, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
I’m not sure whether there’s already a photo dyk in the queue, but either way any photo is appreciated. Trillfendi (talk) 04:49, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
