Premise

The Underground Railroad follows "Cora, a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. The Underground Railroad is no mere metaphor—engineers and conductors operate a network of tracks and tunnels constructed in secret beneath the very Southern soil upon which they’ve been enslaved."[1]

Production

On September 16, 2016, it was announced that Barry Jenkins was set to adapt Colson Whitehead's novel The Underground Railroad into a limited series. Dillon, Aaron Pierre and Joel Edgerton joined the cast of the series.[4][5] In August 2019, Damon Herriman and William Jackson Harper joined the cast of the series in recurring roles.[6][7] In October 2019, Amber Gray joined the cast of the series in a recurring role.[8]
