- 646 CE - Salerno becomes part of the Lombard Duchy of Benevento.[3]
- 774 CE - Duke Arechis II of Benevento relocates to Salerno.
- 851 - Principality of Salerno established.
- 870s - Salerno besieged by Arab forces.[4]
