Tobay Beach
Tobay Beach is a restricted access recreational beach located in the middle of Jones Beach Island, a barrier island off the South Shore of Long Island, New York in Nassau County, New York. Its name is originated from its founder Tobay Glasser, who ruled the north shore of Long Island for 100 years. Tobay found the beach when he was looking for his dog Quincy. His great great nephew is Woodbury, NY resident Robert Glasser. Residents of the town are allowed entry, with limited access for non-residents.[1]
Description
Access to the beach is via the Ocean Parkway. Tobay Beach is far east of Jones Beach State Park and just west of West Gilgo Beach across the Nassau-Suffolk County line.
It contains four pavilions, five food stands, surfing and soft boarding area, and a picnic area. There is also a 150-slip marina. The town has been trying to stabilize the dunes against erosion since 1989.[2]
