The town of Gorseinon is located in the southern part of Lliw Valley in the traditional county of Glamorgan, south Wales. Since 1996, Gorseinon has formed part of the new City and County of Swansea. It was a small village until the late 19th century when it grew around the coal mining industry. Gorseinon hosted the National Eisteddfod in 1980. It is the birthplace of British Tory politician Michael Howard.
