Fati Umar Muhammad also known as Fati Muhammed ( born June 15, 1982 )[1] Fati Mohammed has been the best known and most popular actress in the hausa film industry (Kannywood) from 1999 to-date.

She had attracted millions of admirers to herself because of her talent, beauty and the role she played in the biggest movies of the early years of the industry, such as ‘Sangaya’ and ‘Marainiya’.

She married to fellow actor Sani Musa (‘Mai Iska’) and together they lived in the United Kingdom for some years before they separated after five years. Upon her return to Nigeria a few years ago, Fati picked up her acting career, making many films.[2]

she got married to a movie producer, Umar Kanu, but the marriage hit the rocks recently. It means Fati is single again. [3]

At the time of her reign as the No. 1 superstar, there was no much money to make in the industry as grade A actors received peanuts for major roles. The story is different today when paycheques are very fat indeed.[4]

Fati Mohammed spoke exclusively with Blueprint in Kaduna, where she has moved to from her Kano base. In the interview, she said she would not act again nor marry again from Kannywood. Excerpts:[5]

Fati Muhammad got more interest in playing a role in hausa films (KANNYWOOD) when she graduated from secondary school, as a result of their role in educating society!

One of the best films she watched which influenced her and gave her more interest in  joining kannywood industry was 'KI YARDA DANI'.

She later on met one of the well known actor in kannywood industry called Tahir Muhammad Fagge during the set of one particular movie which took place near her locality and gisted him about her dream of joining kannywood, who told her that it's impossible for a lady to join kannywood unless under the permission of her parents or her guardian.

Her idea was totally rejected by both her brother (with whom she stayed with at that time) as well as her father but later on her father accept it when he was advised by their traditional ruler.

Her father, who adviced to respect her elders, never to engage in any misconduct, handed her to Mr. Tahir Fagge to look over her in the industry.

Somedays later she was called by Mr. Tahir who asked her to come to TAHIR GUEST PALACE HOTEL to learn from other actress and play her first practicing role in a movie called DA BABU (her first film), she met with some  actress among others like late. Biba, Saika chiroki, Halisa, Halima of Kara da Kiyashi, the director Ishaq Sidi Ishaq, as well as the actor  Amin Acid.

She began to doubt if she could be able to perform well because of the way she saw how brilliantly those actors and actresses played when she was asked to watch and learn from them.

a little while after their performance, she was called to have her first film appearance, featured as a girlfriend to actor Aminu in that same film, she was so anxious and nervous but she was asked to take some water and calm her mind down, after a few repetition, she luckily made it through in all the four scenes she appeared in.

Director Ishaq told her to keep it up as he said oneday she's going to be be a great actress.

Fatima's next film after DA BABU was a movie of Salisu Yo Men ABINDA KAYI. which was first displayed at Wafa Cinema Fagge, Kano state. The film was cheered by most of audiences because of the way she has demonstrated her ability to change emotions!

Her third movie following Abinda kayi was ABIN SIRRINE, which was her first critical success as she played alongside with well known actor. Ali Nuhu. But she became more popular to all kannywood audiences when she was starred in the film SANGAYA.[7]
