Santa Fe Railway Depot (Pasadena, California)

[edit]

I'm going through a bunch of Santa Fe stations, is it alright if I add your Pasadena station draft as an article? Cards84664 (talk) 16:50, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Given the colocation, I would prefer putting the material into Del Mar station rather than a separate article. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:22, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cards84664:, Yeah the content would probably be best just at the current metro station article, unless there is a lot more content that can be included with the old station. GFOLEY FOUR!15:30, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, how are you? You could unprotect the Portal:Geography. I made some edits to make the portal more dynamic, I believe that vandalism will not be a problem. My goal with unprotect is to attract more editors to the portal space.Guilherme Burn (talk) 17:41, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Done, but please drop me another message or a request at RFPP if vandalism restarts. GFOLEY FOUR!18:43, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

C&NW

[edit]

I've been scraping together a digital collection of c&nw as well as Union Pacific timetables from a bunch of different websites, I could send those to you if it'll help with research. Cards84664 02:06, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing! Email would work.
I was fortunate enough to be handed down a 1941 Official Guide which has been my primary source for most "Former stations" I've posted throughout the years, but I haven't seen a post-1920 one available online/one with great quality. GFOLEY FOUR!02:26, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sent. I also included the commuter lines in a separate folder. Cards84664 16:48, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, good work, I didn't notice the Aurora Branch at all. You'd be better suited than me to create Union and Southern's many line templates. Cards84664 17:51, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Yeah, many lines are hard to even find, and even harder when the line is abandoned by the 1940s or so. The hardest issue is seemingly when a cross country route is on the same physical line as a commuter route (i.e. pretty much all of the Chicago Metra lines now). And how to split up branch lines when there's not a clear division. I've been primarily going off the timetables for the major lines then trying to add in with commuter routes, but I'm sure there's gaps.
I think I'm going to tackle the Milwaukee Road next but of course feel free to get more going on other lines such as UP and SP. The timetables you sent look pretty much the same as the ones that I've seen in the Official Guide. GFOLEY FOUR!18:07, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adjacent stations

[edit]

Would you please check the recent edit at Chicago, Milwaukee and Saint Paul Railroad Depot and Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad-Grafton Station. Currently they are showing something like Lua error in Module:Adjacent_stations at line 221: Unknown line "Austin-Mason City". Johnuniq (talk) 06:25, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnuniq: Thanks for the note. Should be fixed now. Reason it happened is that everytime I need to add another branch line I need to edit Module:Adjacent stations/Milwaukee Road and I've been trying to reduce the amount of times I edit it, and forgot to save changes last night. GFOLEY FOUR!15:54, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
No problems, thanks for the work. Johnuniq (talk) 22:22, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Hood River station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pioneer (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Minnesota Transfer

[edit]

Good call, the official railway guide (1910-01), mentions that Minnesota Transfer was a "joint clearing house" freight depot for the Burlington, Corn Belt, Milwaukee, Rock Island, Great Northern, Peoria Gateway, Soo, Northern Pacific, C&NW, and Wisconsin Central. Madison C&NW station

[edit]

I saw your call for pictures of Madison station (C&NW), and since I live around there, I went out and got a few pictures. They're in the Commons category; feel free to add them to the article yourself, since you probably have a better idea of where they'd fit. Unfortunately, it's raining in Madison today and it's a little obvious in the pictures, so I might go back and get better ones later. (I'm honestly a little embarrassed that a historic building in my backyard didn't have a picture on Commons yet - I may need to look into what other buildings near me don't have pictures yet.) TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 23:01, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TheCatalyst31: That's awesome, looks great! I actually made a post on the Madison, WI subreddit asking for someone to take a picture as well. GFOLEY FOUR!01:35, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's actually where I saw the call for pictures. The only reason I didn't reply on there is so my Reddit account wouldn't get linked to my Wikipedia account. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 01:50, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah cool. Thanks again. GFOLEY FOUR!02:08, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Page Protection

[edit]

Gfoley, did you review the edits added since march to the Open Media Foundation article? The claims of Sexual Harrassment by the ED are not substantiated by the citations. The claims of general harassment include only a quote from the individual making these edits, violating NPOV. The references to an Audit and the findings of the audit are not remotely substantiated by the citation. These are all posts made by a disgruntled former intern and contractor who has been harassing the organization and ED relentlessly for the past year. I am not familiar with all the rules of Wikipedia, so I would appreciate some guidance for preventing this individual from using Wikipedia as a platform to slander a living person and the organization they run. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.122.94.8 (talk) 20:23, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed this while checking contributions from recent edits at the article. I had previously declined a protection request for this article but have semi-protected it for a month after further investigation. After Gfoley4's decline, a new user repeated edits from March, and checking shows that an off-wiki feud is being waged in the article with undue commentary about the ED of the organization. I put more of an explanation for the editor who first requested protection at User talk:Johnuniq#Open Media Foundation. Johnuniq (talk) 02:27, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, thanks for the note. GFOLEY FOUR!16:26, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Livingston Depot

[edit]

Any chance you can revert the rename of Livingston Station back to Livingston Depot (former Northern Pacific station in MT)? The better policy is the one under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Article_titles#Use_commonly_recognizable_names . I didn't want to revert because the two subsequent edits looked useful. The place has almost never historically been referred to as anything else, station included. The NYC subway and the Google street map entrances

[edit]

I am Italian, I love NYC and above all the mytichal NYC subway. I know that also you are a great lover of the NY subway and maybe you can help me. I think that wiki is a fantastic thing and should not be a dictatorship! I love the NY subway and NYC stations pages. But there is a problem. A wikipedia's administrator, incredibly threatened to block me from editing only because I updated the old (many of the 2009...) images of the subway entrances, I just put other subway entrances (see the 59th St Columbus Circle, Fulton Center and 42nd Times Square stations for example) and above all I put subway entrances and platform images where there were images of streets without stations or even restaurant interiors...(only for example, to see the Franklin Street station)! I lost a lot of hours (and many nights) in this huge work because I love the NYC subway. I also love Wikipedia and I think that is it necessary to correct the evident errors. In many images it wasn't possible to see many entrance stairs and I, with an infinite patience, have updated them! I think that these were important contributions to improve the NY subway page and as a thank you now I can't see the subway entrances of Google streets on the wiki pages... Now this person is taking off all the google map street view entrances of the NY subway stations!!! Absurd! I think that these images were very useful because in the many NY subway sites we can to see only the stations, but my goal was put also all the subway entrances! (YOU CAN SEE THE OLD WIKI PAGE OF 24 August 2021 OF THE 59TH ST-COLUMBUS CIRCLE STATION WITH ALL THE ENTRANCES in the Google Maps Street View section, FOR EXAMPLE - https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=59th_Street%E2%80%93Columbus_Circle_station&oldid=1040487147). And this is only 1 example (you can see the old pages of Times Square, Fulton Center stations etc) I updated and added ALL the subway entrances of the 1-2 and 3 lines after many nights without sleeping ONLY for an ENORMOUS PASSION and WITHOUT INTEREST, but this has been his only answer:

Short answer; we don't need Google streetview links to every subway station. Wikipedia is not a directory or a transit guide. Most of the other links in the External links section should be removed per WP:EL. OhNoitsJamie Talk 21:38, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

P.S. If you see this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/125th_Street_station_(IRT_Lexington_Avenue_Line) it is easy to notice an huge error: if you click on the 125th Street entrance from Google Maps Street View (in the external links section), you don't see an entrance in the street, but a platform... And this is just a simple example of the many errors in these NY subway stations pages. Now, if I correct these errors, he can block me. I don't think that this is the right attitude to improve Wikipedia... What do you suggest me to do? Thanks for your possible help.

Very many people were enjoying my enormous work to seek and put the many NYC subway entrances. When in 2019 I have been in the most important city in the world and I taken your fantastic subway at all hours, even if I am a huge lover of it, it wasn't easy to find the right entrance and therefore, when I saw that on wiki somebody had had this fantastic idea, I was very happy and I wished to contribute. If I deleted some previous images, it was because in that pictures often it was not possible to see the entrance or also because with 1 only image I was trying to show all the STAIRS and also the fantastic GREEN (entrance always open 24/7) and RED lamps typical of the NYC subway, but also the beautiful NYC skyscrapers on background!!! I realize that for the persons which aren't passionate of the NY subway it it may not be important, but it is however USEFUL. When I saw that the wikipedia' administrator deleted the subway entrances of the Times Square, Columbus Circle, Fulton Center etc it has been an heart attack for me and for my sleeping nights to seek and add, but also to update the many entrances of these fantastic stations! I hope that my old images on the 1-2 and 3 lines can be restored and that the administrator will be able to allow us to put the entrances of all the lines and to improve these wiki pages. Thank you and excuse me for my incorrect English...

I HOPE THAT YOU CAN HELP ME TO RESTORE ALL THE FANTASTIC AND USEFUL IMAGES OF THE ENTRANCES OF THE NYC SUBWAY STATIONS ON Google Maps Street View! Thank you. A great passionate of the NYC subway. Forza NYCFC !! (talk) 18:41, 31 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Magic Johnson's correct height

[edit]

Magic was once measured apparently at 6'7"½ or just a hair more, making 6'8" a reasonable listing for him if you round up slightly. He shouldn't be listed at 6'9" as Larry Bird also mistakenly was. Look at measurements from the many photos of these 2 side-by-side (on the USA Dream Team for example, and more) and you'll see Magic Johnson was closer to 6'8" while Larry Bird was closer to 6'10". Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,
