The University of Santo Tomas College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) formally established on 2014 and was formerly known as UST IICS (Institute of Information and Computing Sciences) with its separation as an independent academic unit from the Faculty of Engineering. Its programs trace their histories to the College of Science (for Computer Science), College of Commerce and Business Administration (for Information Systems), and the Faculty of Engineering (for Information Technology).[2]

In June 2021, the university's board of trustees approved the elevation of the institute to the status of a college, announcing that it is now officially called the University of Santo Tomas College of Information and Computing Sciences.[3]

The college is also known for getting its recognition of Center of Development (Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology) from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Level II Accreditation (BS Computer Science, BS Information Systems, BS Information Technology) from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).

Facilities

[edit]
Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building, which houses both the Senior High School and the College of Information and Computing Sciences.

The UST College of Information and Computing Sciences initially resided in the Roque Ruaño Building before relocating to the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building in 2019.[4]

Currently, the Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building, located in the southeast next to the University of Santo Tomas campus and connected by a link bridge, houses the UST College of Information and Computing Sciences on its 18th through 20th floors. The UST Senior High School also shares the building's 10th through 15th floors.

Last August 9, 2023, a satellite library named BiblioTechAI was launched to aid CICS students in their studies and also serve as a space of recreation. The BiblioTechAI library also offers a plethora of books, ebooks, and other published materials that are essential to CICS students, academic staff, and educators alike.[5]

The Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Building's computer laboratories, which are on the 18th floor, are the most modern and cutting-edge for the use of the UST CICS students. The university's progress is further aided by the Mac Computer Laboratories located on the same floor. It welcomes students from the different colleges of the university to use the computer lab.

The Frassati building serves as the hub for various departments and centers within UST, including the UST Senior High School, College of Information and Computing Sciences, Educational Technology Center, Santo Tomas e-Services Providers, and TOMASInno Center. It boasts classrooms, laboratories, a two-story library, a gymnasium, an auditorium, and additional amenities.[6]
