Laws for Indie dog of India[edit]

In India, there exist laws and regulation safeguarding the rights of indie dogs, encompassing various key points:

1. Protection from Harm: Legal system of India prohibits the beating, killing, or expulsion of indie dogs. They hold the right to reside in the areas of their birth, akin to human, and any aggressive behavior towards them is deemed violation of law.

2. Animals Birth Control (ABC) Program: To manage indie dogs population in a humane and law manner, the Animals Birth Control (ABC) program is implemented. This initiative involves sterilizing indie dogs by surgically removing their reproductive organs and vaccinating them against rabies . Following this procedure, the dogs are released back into their original areas. The ABC program is in accordance with the Animal Birth Control Rules 2001 and directives from the Supreme Court of India. It is crucial to refrain from destroying sterilized and vaccinated dogs, as they contribute significantly to rabies control and population management.

3. Legal Framework: Stray dogs are protected under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA), 1960. Specific regulation outlined in Section 38 of the PCA include the Animals Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001. Additionally, Article 51A(g) of the Indian Constitution emphasizes the importance of showing compassion towards animals.

It is our responsibility to coexist harmoniously with indie dogs and ensure their welfare. Let us raise Awareness and treat them with kindness and dignity.[1]
