This userbox has eight parameters. Their functions are:
- Border colour. Leaving this parameter blank gives a black border.
- Phase - insert "Solid", "Liquid", "Gas" or "UnknownPhase" for the element's phase at 25°C = 77°F = 298°K and 1 atm. Leaving this parameter blank has the same result as "Solid". In case this is not known to the template user, here is the complete list:
- The element's atomic number - see list of elements for information.
- The element's chemical symbol - see list of elements for information.
- The element's atomic weight - see list of elements for information.
- The colour showing the element's chemical series. See the section below.
- Name of the element - see list of elements for information. Please begin it with a lowercase letter, as element names are not capitalized in English (unless at the beginning of a sentence).
- Background of the text in the userbox (not the ID). If left blank, the background will be transparent.
Colour codes
[edit]chemical series | color code | description |
---|---|---|
alkali metals | #ff6666 | Very reactive and therefore dangerous = red. |
alkaline earth metals | #ffdead | Nice earthy color = easy to remember. |
lanthanides | #ffbfff | The current color was chosen arbitrarily. |
actinides | #ff99cc | The current color was chosen arbitrarily. |
transition metals | #ffc0c0 | Another shade of gray (or even silver) would work here. But that would make the table a bit drab and the colors of the metals and transitions metals too similar. |
poor metals | #cccccc | True metals are closest in color to gray. |
metalloids | #cccc99 | Intermediate color between above and below. |
nonmetals | #a0ffa0 | Elements most essential to life. Most life on Earth (measured by biomass) is photosynthetic and chlorophyll is green. |
halogens | #ffff99 | Fluorine gas is yellowish as are many precipitates of halogens. |
noble gases | #c0ffff | Non-reactive for practical purposes. Cyan is soft and soothing (it is also the opposite of red). |
unknown chemical properties | #e8e8e8 | This shade of gray usually signifies "unknown". |
undiscovered | #ffffff | White usually signifies "unknown", it being a blank space where the element symbol is floating. |
superactinides | #f4f4c6 | The current color was chosen arbitrarily. |

Example
[edit]
{{User:UBX/Element||UnknownPhase|104|Rf|[261]|#ffc0c0|rutherfordium|}}
will produce:
104 Rf [261] |
This user's favourite element is rutherfordium. |
---|
If you want further stylizing, you can add the other parameters:
{{User:UBX/Element|#6cacde|UnknownPhase|104|Rf|[261]|#ffc0c0|rutherfordium|#fc86f6}}
which will produce:
104 Rf [261] |
This user's favourite element is rutherfordium. |
