April 2014[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Discospinster. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! ... discospinster talk 03:04, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ajcol13, welcome to Wikipedia! I'm afraid it can be a very confusing place. I am an administrator here, but I declined the speedy deletion of the Oakleigh Greek Orthodox College redirect, and added the template explaining that it is a redirect created when an article was moved. There is a forum specifically for proposing the deletion of redirects: Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion; your account probably needs to be autoconfirmed - 4 days old and with 10 edits made - for you to list it there, but I suggest you read the information on that page about when and why we delete redirects, including the policies and explanations linked to. I do not think this redirect should be deleted, since it is the former name of the school; your reasoning that Google gives it prominence over the current name is, I am afraid, not a concern of ours as an encyclopedia, although I am not sure what is taking Google so long, since the article has been at the new name for over six months.

I've also rewritten the Oakleigh Grammar article, which was unduly promotional, used capital letters in an unencyclopedic way, and did not have wikilinks to obviously applicable things. If you were also responsible for expanding it as an IP, thank you, and I hope you don't mind my editing it to bring it more in line with our standards. I introduced a first reference from the school's own website, but the article would be much better with some external references. Can you find us any news coverage or other independent sources and add them? I do not know whether that will help with Google's algorithms, but I doubt it can hurt, and it would assist in demonstrating the notability of the school.
