  • A newly revamped database report can help identify users who may be eligible to be autopatrolled.
  • A potentially compromised account from 2001–2002 attempted to request resysop. Please practice appropriate account security by using a unique password for Wikipedia, and consider enabling two-factor authentication. Currently around 17% of admins have enabled 2FA, up from 16% in February 2017.
  • Did you know: On 29 June 2017, there were 1,261 administrators on the English Wikipedia – the exact number of administrators as there were ten years ago on 29 June 2007. Since that time, the English Wikipedia has grown from 1.85 million articles to over 5.43 million.

Deletion of WASPI

Hi! I noticed that the 'WASPI' article was recently deleted after being tagged for speedy deletion. I'm not the original article creator but I wanted to contest the deletion although unfortunately I was a bit slow and you deleted the article before I could get my post in. In the state the article was in, it definitely didn't meet the criteria but I believe the subject of the article does meet the notability criteria. What I was going to write was:

Hi, I believe this organisation does meet the notability guidelines per WP:NONPROFIT.
The organisation is national, it campaigns for the estimated two and a half million women in the UK who have been affected by a decision to increase the age at which a woman can receive a pension inline with the age for men. This has proven to be controversial as many women weren't informed of the change until they had already made retirement plans, and the change also means that women born a couple of months apart now have vastly different retirement ages.
The organisation has received significant coverage in the media, and was a large issue in the recent General Election (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election-2017-40014575). A petition to parliament relating to this issue received 193,185 signatures meaning that it received a full parliamentary debate (https://www.theguardian.com/money/2016/jan/13/state-pension-for-women-parliamentary-debate). The campaign group's official site has a page dedicated to listing media coverage (http://www.waspi.co.uk/media-coverage) and the organisation has received thorough coverage from the BBC, ITV and many newspapers including the Independent and the Guardian. Although WASPI is an organisation, the name is also now synonymous with the issue, and the women affected are often referred to as 'WASPI women' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40511545).

Firstly, I'd like to check with you if given the coverage it has received, if that would be enough to meet the criteria. Secondly, if it is enough, would it be alright for me to resurrect the article with some of these sources, or would it be better to edit the Draft:WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) that exists? I had a look through the page on speedy deletion but couldn't find what the correct procedure is. Maesterial (talk) 20:52, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi Maesterial, the article as was was an almost exact copy of the previously deleted page. Your best bet would be to work on the draft and submit it for review through the AFC process, this will allow you to get reviews from experienced editors prior to it being moved to articlespace, due to the fact the article has been repeatedly recreated the page cannot be directly recreated as it has been protected from creation. WASPI

I have re-opened Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Action at WASPI as there seems to be a bunch of work going on elsewhere at cross purposes. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 18:57, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

Continued disruption at Ottoman Empire

Hi-- You recently semi-protected Ottoman Empire. Unfortunately, the IP user didn't take the cue to use the talk page but went right back to edit warring when protection expired. Eperoton (talk) 01:43, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

hello Amortias.Eperoton just wants to own the Ottoman Empire.plese see his edits and how he use ip for edit war.my edits have sources and he is unable to find valid reasons to revert them so he decided to use article protection and monopoly game. i asked him for third opinion but he just tries to write his own and desired content.188.158.119.166 (talk) 05:12, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

We already had a third opinion in Talk:Ottoman_Empire#Ottomans_and_Turkish_identity and now we have a fourth one. They both oppose this user's addition. Let's see if they will now take "no consensus" for an answer or make a proper effort to get one instead of personal attacks. It's hard to be optimistic given their contributions so far. P.S. No, I'm not making IP edits. Eperoton (talk) 23:06, 12 July 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Amortias/Archives/2017, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

Technology update:

  • Several requests have been put into Phabractor to increase usability of the New Pages Feed and the Page Curation toolbar. For more details or to suggest improvements go to Wikipedia:Page Curation/Suggested improvements
  • The tutorial has been updated to include links to the following useful userscripts. If you were not aware of them, they could be useful in your efforts reviewing new pages:

ArbCom clerk

Hello. I would like to ask you, what do I need to do (or what qualifications do I need to have) , in order to be eligible for ArbCom clerk trainee??

Hi @Kostas20142:. Details on what the basic level of requirements for clerks can be found here. Amortias (T)(C) 13:39, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Oh yes thank you --actually I had already read this one! Anyways, I would like to express my interest in being considered as a potential trainee --Kostas20142 (talk) 13:47, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
@Kostas20142: In that case you would need to send an e-mail to clerks-l@lists.wikimedia.org expressing your interest. Amortias (T)(C) 13:51, 29 July 2017 (UTC)
Ok thank you very much for your time! --Kostas20142 (talk) 13:53, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

FYI

Headbomb was given an extension. ~ Rob13Talk 17:18, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

@BU Rob13:Yeah thanks saw that, only way of removing the 500 limit template and still keep track would be to add the party evidence counter and that may just confuse matters, will stick a link to the extension after the counter. Amortias (T)(C) 17:23, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
Scratch that just found the extend the limit parameter. Amortias (T)(C) 17:35, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Edit count

Concerning [1], my understanding is that my word count limit has been extended to 1500, per the talk page. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 17:21, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

@Headbomb:See above reply to BU Rob13, is in progress still. Amortias (T)(C) 17:46, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
 Done. Amortias (T)(C) 17:46, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Would it be possible to lower the protection level of the article to semi-protection? There is little disagreement among the editors, except for one editor who has been blocked for making legal threats and sockpuppeting. There will be significant news coverage of her in the near future (e.g. [2] [3]), and it will be good to be able to keep the article updated. --YewGotUp (talk) 01:34, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

@YewGotUp: at present I'm inclined to leave the full protection on as I don't believe this will be just a user and one sock but more likely a few of them. Once the SPI has been closed or the protection comes off of its own accord its likely blocks will be dealt out if edit warring continues. Amortias (T)(C) 17:58, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
