A year

[edit]

Hi AngelOfSadness, did you know it's now been one year since Rlevse, Nishkid64, and I nominated you for adminship? I think you've made a fine administrator, and I hope you've had fun. Acalamari 16:32, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I did remember it when it turned the first of June :) It doesn't seem like it was a year ago. Then again it doesn't seem like nearly two years and a month since I joined Wikipedia so... Hopefully I'll have a lot more time to spend around here from now on as real life stuff is beginning to calm down again finally. (If you look at my current last 50 edits you can see edits from April in there so it shows how many times I've actually managed to log on in the last few months) But yes I've had fun :D. AngelOfSadness talk 15:55, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I had noticed your recent drop-off in activity, but real-life matters are important, so don't worry about it. :) I'm glad you've had a good time as an admin, and yes, it's amazing that it's nearly been two years since I welcomed you to Wikipedia. Acalamari 16:46, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
At least now my contribs history is looking more normal. Its great to be back so...what did I miss? :D AngelOfSadness talk 17:40, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

GA reassessment of Kelly Clarkson

[edit]

I have conducted a reassessment of the above article as part of the GA Sweeps process. I have found a large number of concerns with the article which you can see at Talk:Kelly Clarkson/GA1. I have delisted the article as it will need a lot of work to bring it to GA status. Thanks. Jezhotwells (talk) 20:27, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

[edit]

A warm welcome back to you. ;) Acalamari 21:04, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Anything interesting happen when I was gone? :D AngelOfSadness talk 21:06, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as you can see from the GA note above, there's been work on the Kelly Clarkson article to keep the quality of her article up; there's been the Checkuser and Oversight elections; and in the last week, two former bureaucrats asked for their tools back, and MBisanz passed RfB the other day to become our newest bureaucrat. Some good stuff! Acalamari 21:12, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
So quite a lot happened then. Do I also have reason to believe that there are now 3 million articles on this Wikipedia? (Sky News hinted about it earlier today while I was channel-flipping :D) AngelOfSadness talk 21:20, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yep! We've reached that number, and I remember when it was less than 1.5 million when I joined nearly three years ago. ;) Acalamari 21:25, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Crazy how time flies. Here's to the next 1.5 million :D AngelOfSadness talk 21:32, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tokio Hotel/Monica Sanz

[edit]

Thank you angelofsadness! I will try to find a better source that show all about the storie clearly. Anyway, I would like to know if the rest of the biography is ok now or if you advice to change something. If not, when will disappear the picture of the beginning? I’m working hard to make things good, thank you so much again --Ferr89 (talk) 21:06, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok. Just send me a message when you find any sources you think could be reliable and I'll help you to determine whether the source matches Wikipedia's standards on sources. So far the article is looking great. You have the sources properly formatted but the only thing I'd say is that the sources themselves aren't the best as most of them are also blogs although I see some of it was written by Monica herself. So is it possible to find published articles (like Spanish newspapers, magazines or even reputable online sources that have interviews or features about her) with the same information so we can not only back up the information in the article better but also help to establish notablility. I would do this myself but my Spanish is quite basic so I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for Spanish sources. :) But you're doing great work so keep it up. :) AngelOfSadness talk 22:21, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nekrogoblikon

[edit]

Hi,

I'd like to create an article for Nekrogoblikon. I accidentally made the article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nekrogoblicon (note the mis-spelling on my part). When I tried to move the article over, I saw it was protected from creation. The new article will be clean, NPOV, and well sourced. Given that the band is in it's 4th year and about to release its 2nd album soon, I think they pass the thresholds of importance and notability. Thanks!

Cdelosr1 (talk) 16:52, 25 September 2009 (UTC)Cdelosr1[reply]

I wish you would have taken a closer look at Wikipedia's guideline on music articles before re-creating the article as currently the content in the article doesn't assert the notability that would prevent it from deletion. The article doesn't mention that the band have fulfilled at least one of the critera at Wikipedia:MUSIC#Criteria_for_musicians_and_ensembles. Just because a band is four years old and has two albums doesn't make said band notable by Wikipedia's standards and thats why its been deleted so many times (and then creation protected). Although what I will do is move the article into your yourspace for now so you can work on it (like adding sources and mentions of notability) and then it can be moved to the appropriate title when it meets at least one of the music critera. I feel this is a lot fairer than speedy deleting the article (which I could do or any other admin could do under WP:CSD#A7 in its current condition) and all of your hard work going to waste. If you have any questions about reliable sources or sufficent claims of notability, feel free to leave a message on my talkpage and I'll do what I can to help. Cheers. AngelOfSadness talk 18:20, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Troy Rodriguez

[edit]

Hello, you told me a while back that if I came across any Troy Rodriguez accounts to let you know. I found an account that matches his MO at the article Richard King High School. The account User:PatrioticSergeant added text to the article about a football game Troy Rodriguez participated in and the account has other edits including Troy Rodriguez-related material to other articles. It looks like the IP address 66.90.194.168 which has also edited that article with similar edits might also be Troy, but I don't know how IPs are handled. At any rate, I think that article still needs to be cleaned up now that it's been converted from an article about a high school to an article with that's mostly about a non-notable high school football game. Thanks as always for your help! Rnb (talk) 02:49, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I removed all of the content that had to do with the game (including game players, scores etc.) for being unsourced (which it was) and being almost irrelevent to the article's subject which was about the school. As for the user themselves, I'm not sure on whether to block as a sockpuppet just yet as the edits aren't as severe as the known Troy. I know that they Troy edits were solely for putting Hip-Hop related hoax articles (like fake artists, discographies and album articles) and because this recent user only mentions Troy (could just be a friend of Troy's) so I won't block just yet as it may or may not be the same user. But I will keep an eye on the user and said page and if Troy related activity increases I'll place a block then. But thanks so much for keeping an eye out over the last 14 months (according to my deletion logs of some of the original Troy articles) :) . Tokio Hotel

[edit]

The poster I responded to was also utilizing personal attacks, technically. Didn't you notice the SHUT YOUR TRAP, DUDE! go suck scrambled eggs! in the first line of his comment? Was he at least warned about that? 74.69.64.52 (talk) 08:47, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually that guys comment was vandalised by someone else (these revisionsof the talkpage are proof). Either way personal attacks shouldn't be used and it doesn't matter if someone else was using them first- that in itself doesn't change the NPA rule. It's not exactly the same as "fight fire with fire" or something like that. Anyway I didn't see the comment you were refering to at first - I saw yours though hence the warning as you too, technically, used a personal attack. If I had seen the original attack soon after it was done I would have warned them too. Although I've looked through the talkpage's edit history, warned the user that put in that comment and also undid their talkpage attack. It doesn't matter who does the personal attacks, when detected they're all treated the same. In future if you see a personal attack just remind the person of WP:NPA (but obviously don't use them yourself) and if they continue (beyond a resonable amount of warnings), you should report them. Nekrogoblikon

[edit]

Hey AngelOfSadness, my name is Nicky. I'm leaving you this message regarding the protection of the "Nekrogoblikon" wikipedia page:

18:02, 31 July 2008 AngelOfSadness (talk | contribs) deleted "Nekrogoblikon" ‎ (A7 (group): Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a group/company/etc.)

I'm here to request that this article become editable, and unprotected. This happened back in 2008 (and prior-to by other protection admins). We (Nekrogoblikon) have been very busy recording new material, playing shows etcetera etcetera.

Since we were originally dismissed as a "Non-Notable" band, we have become signed to a label, and managed to garner many fans (aka we have gained significant notability).

Let me state that the original reason our wiki was deleted probably has something to do with the fact that we held a contest to see who could create us a wikipedia entry the fastest (back in '06). Obviously, this wasn't the brightest maneuver on our part, but we had no idea it would lead to the deletion of our entry and protection against adding further content under the name.

I read through the FAQ's regarding protection, but it's very hard for me to discern any precise information regarding exactly what I'm supposed to do to have a protection repealed.

Therefore, I am writing to you in hopes that you can either revoke the protected status yourself, or guide me to somebody who can.

Obviously, we are very sorry to have unwittingly spammed you at wikipedia, and any future content will be strictly informational (and reinforce notability).

my email is ncalonne@gmail.com;

looking forward to hearing back, and thanks for your time

-Nicky Calonne —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ncalonne (talkcontribs) 20:42, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    • EDIT: I just read the article above, from that guy in Sep. '09. Basically, I have read the notability page and given the opportunity to write the article I can fulfill at least one of the criteria listed on that page. Thanks!
The main problem is that you are connected to the band. So I would greatly discourage you writing an article about your band as it shows a clear conflict of interest (its leads to problems with neutrality as well as advertising sounding articles). Having loads of fans also doesn't assert notability (unless you get loads of press coverage because of it and then signed e.g. Lily Allen on MySpace). Playing loads of gigs doesn't assert notability because neary every band on earth does that. Also being signed to a label doesn't assert notability. If you read WP:MUSIC, you will see that the critera clearly states Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels. You didn't mention which label you're signed to but the label either has to be a major label (EMI etc.) or one of the more important indie labels e.g Domino (which signed Franz Ferdinand (band) and Arctic Monkeys) for the band to fulfill half the other half of that critera part. I don't see how the article will fulfill that critera at this current time (by the sounds of it, it could very easily be deleted under the same critera A7) and so i'm declining protection as the original creation protection still stands (I didn't place the create-protection although I could very easily talk it over with the protecting admin when the article needs unprotecting for their ok on the matter. Also as the article has been re-created so many times, most admins will be reluctant to undo creation-protection then and there). But this is only based on the info given in the message above. Don't forget that coverage in multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician or ensemble itself and reliable is asserting notability so if there's any of that, it would help get the page unprotected and re-created. I just want to help you guys in getting the article up and running and I know that if the article is created again it will be slapped with speedy deletion tag/Articles for deletion tag before its even five minutes old. You can always create a draft of the article (if you feel that it could match the sources critera or any of the other critera at User:Ncalonne/Nekrogoblikon and I can look over it, see what sources are good/bad and then move the article into the mainspace if it fulfills any of the critera. Hopefully this helps and if want any further help or if you have any more questions, just leave me a message here. Regards AngelOfSadness talk 14:18, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Query about deletion of the page titles "Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College"

[edit]

Hi AngelOfSadness,

I am an alumnus of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College. I have graduated in 2006 with Mechanical Engineering. I want to create a page in Wikipedia for my college, but I have found that a previous such attempt was deleted by you.

Please let me know the reasons behind your deletion and the possible measures of rectifications that you deem fit.

Regards, Kinjal Sengupta, Kolkata, India +91 947 709 5408

kinjal.sengupta@gmail.com

I deleted it as the person who re-created it and contributed signifcantly to the article, decided to blank it which shows that they want the article deleted and so I speedy deleted it under Wikipedia:CSD#G7. It wasn't very major or anything tha original author blanked it after someone tagged the article with a #A7 tag for not asserting notability. So all I would say is assert the college's notability and back up those claims with independant third party reliable sources (just so it won't get slapped with an #A7 tag as soon as you post it). Also try your best to be as neutral as you can. Since you are an alumnus of the college you could be seen as having a conflict of interest but that's only if the article gets attention by sounding too much like an advert etc. If you make sure there will be no advertising-sounding content in the article and that the tone is neutral as can be then you shouldn't have any problems. If you have any other questions feel free to leave a message here for me and I'll be sure to answer you within a few days. Happy Editing! AngelOfSadness talk 22:39, 20 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Murda Mook

[edit]

I saw recently that you deleted a Murda Mook. He's an underground, mostly freestyle artist. It's not really a big deal to me that he isn't on there, but I read that it was deleted because he was fictional. I just wanted to let you know that Murda Mook is a real person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.239.100.28 (talk) 20:00, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I never deleted the article according to the article's deletion log nor did I discuss the article's deletion in its Afd. And I also never edited the page so I can't say that I'm sure what you're talking about. AngelOfSadness talk 17:04, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually nevermind. I found the article which I deleted, which I deleted under WP:CSD#A7 which is that the article didn't assert claims of notability. I know he was real. I wasn't saying that. I deleted it because it didn't assert why he was notable enough for an article. Fictional people can have articles just so you know e.g famous TV and book characters like Rachel Green, Harry Potter and John Dorian. AngelOfSadness talk 17:10, 13 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I deleted the page back in August of 2008 per WP:CSD#A7 (Article did not assert the importance or significance of the subject). To assert "importance or significance of the subject", the creator must insure that the subject meets the critera of WP:BIO before writing, then insure that the article itself details the reasons why it fulfills the critera through its content and its sources. The article revision in August 2008 did not do this hence its deletion. With thanks

Nekrogoblikon

[edit]

Hello, my name is Alex Alereza and I play guitar for a band called Nekrogoblikon that has apparently been banned from this site. If I recall correctly, the we were banned due to too many articles being posted on us and because we didn't at the time merit enough recognition to be posted on this site. The reason there were so many articles was because we actually posted up on our Myspace page that the first person to create a wikipedia page for us would receive a free copy of our album. As a result, multiple entries were made and no single page was allowed to stay on. Much has changed since that time.

I noticed on your "notability" requirements page, one of the criteria is having won or placed in a music competition. Early in 2007, we went through 3 rounds of Sumerian Records' Headbang For the Highway battle of the bands competition, and placed 2nd amongst all of the California acts before the final round to determine the national winner. Also in 2007, we were voted in the Santa Barbara Independent's Top 5 Readers Choice bands and performed a concert in downtown Santa Barbara with the other four bands that November. To this day we are one of the most prominent and well-recognized metal bands in Santa Barbara, CA.

In 2009, we signed to a label called Creator-Destructor Records, a label run by Ben Murray, the drummer of Light This City (the band has a wikipedia page as well). In addition, we have performed with Arsis, August Burns Red, Conducting From the Grave, Powerglove, A Band of Orcs, Falling to Pieces, Cattle Decapitation, Burning the Masses, Bermuda, Volumes, MC Frontalot, The Minibosses, and other prominent acts since that time, and have been endorsed by Halo Guitars and The Mountain T-shirt company.

In 2010, our forthcoming album STENCH received excellent reviews on www.nocleansinging.com and www.metal-sucks.net, the latter of which is quite a prominent metal website. We have also had press releases in the past that made it onto www.blabbermouth.net, a HIGHLY prominent metal news website.

For more information, you can visit our Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/nekrogoblikon. I hope this information allows you to reconsider us having a page on Wikipedia.

Thank you, Alex Alereza — Preceding unsigned comment added by NekrogobAlex (talkcontribs) 00:17, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know I was the last one to delete the page but for good reason considering the only content of the article upon deletion was "Nekrogoblikon is a Santa Barbara based folk metal/melodic death metal band. They released their first album independently, Goblin Island. They were signed to Creator-Destructor Records in March of 2008. They are currently working on their as of yet untitled follow-up album." and I fairly certain it got deleted many times before for similar content. Though really you should be contacting Caknuck as they salted the article (put a lock on the page preventing it from re-creation) and I'm not going to undo another admin's decision. First, I LOVE Ireland! I traveled there for my best friend's wedding and to find some family history ( McNamara). I'm writing you since the peace sign on your page gave me some hope that you may can give some advice. I'm a newcomer to Wikipedia.

On my first day I received several warnings. I do apologize for disrupting the normal "edit" board in any form.

A company soliciting me to purchase my business name and maintain services on wikipedia and other social marketing cites is a commercial and advertisement company. An attorney has suggested my best option would probably be to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

I responded to the company selling me a product and service by creating my own social marketing page for my business like on facebook and twitter did not intent to break any rules; my attempt is to create a clean page - perhaps receive welcome on my page :) Ginger — Preceding unsigned comment added by GingerSaucier (talkcontribs) 17:34, 28 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is correct. Thank you for the good idea and I understand. GingerSaucier 03:10, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello there and, firstly, sorry for the late reply. Secondly Ebe123 is right: with few sources about the subject of the article, the article will ultimately get deleted if it can't fullfil the Wikipedia:Notability requirements (hence why it got deleted twice already). I wish I could be more of help. AngelOfSadness talk 19:40, 7 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Client-Directed Outcome-Informed therapy

[edit]

I appreciate your flagging my unintentional copyright infringement on Client-Directed Outcome-Informed therapy -- I mistakenly thought what I grabbed the text from was public domain not copyright. (Since I linked to that page, you can tell I wasn't trying to hide anything.) Can you put the content on my talk page? I'll rewrite before re-adding the page. Thanks. Engelhardt (talk) 19:19, 7 January 2012

Hello..gov pages can be tricky with copyright as, yes, a lot of them (from the US anyway) are marked/or are assumed to be public domain there are still a lot that aren't. This particular website did not mention that the article was public domain but, regardless, it is always better to re-write content to prevent any issues. I'll copy/paste the non-infinging content to User:Engelhardt/Client-Directed Outcome-Informed therapy (copyvio content tends to be deleted or blanked when found hence I cannot copy/paste the content from the website) and you can work on it there. AngelOfSadness talk 12:49, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Again? I would have thought it wouldn't be detected but I guess I was wrong. I'm terribly sorry it got deleted again. I'm working on the article myself in my sandbox to remove any possible copyvios as I want to see this article in the mainspace considering all the work you've put into writing it. Apparently new page patrollers use some copyvio detection tool which I only found out about today and is probably how they (whoever tagged it for deletion/deleted it) determined it was still a copyvio. (I was comparing the article and sources the old fashioned way: by reading it). I'll post a link here to my sandbox once I've got the article to a point where even there is no more copyvios (according to the copyvio tool anyway). Again I'm very sorry. AngelOfSadness talk 13:33, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ok so I've been working on the article for a while now and I've changed it the best I could without changing the meaning (though in some cases, I might have used what you might see as an incorrect word but that's probably because of my unfamiliarity with the topic thus the true meaning might have been lost: if it has my apologies). My version of the article is at User:AngelOfSadness/Sandbox (feel free to use this version) and, using the copyvio tool, it has 12 matching phrases to the source however most of them are matches on set terms such as "the session rating scale" and "psychotherapy treatment" as well as the source title itself. (so pretty much a load of false positives) Hopefully this version will be acceptable to the copyvio detectors. Although part of the problem could be that much of the content comes from one source hence changing the content is harder than if one had more sources to incorporate. I don't have access to any of the other articles, mentioned as sources, to work with hence avoiding copyvio is difficult. I found an article about paraphrasing and the like that might help here Wikipedia:Close_paraphrasing#How_to_write_acceptable_content. AngelOfSadness talk 15:25, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Magrudergrind

[edit]

Huh? Doesn't this count?—Chowbok 02:27, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I did not see that (admin who deleted the article back then did not link to the Afd as a part of the deletion reason). Although after looking at that deletion discussion and comparing the revisions from the then Afd'd version and now I would still say no as the revisions are completely different. Also some notability (though only a weak assertion of notability) has been established in the nearly six year difference (a speedy for A7 would get turned down) and also it can't be speedied per that deletion discussion because that revision was deleted because the article was sounding too much like vanity/an advertisement basically being "Vanispamcruftisement". The current revision doesn't fall is not the victim of the same problems hence cannot be deleted per that discussion. CSD#G4 is for articles that are "substantially identical to the deleted version, and any changes do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted" hence is not applicable. Like I said on the article discussion page you could take it to Afd for notability assertion concerns and if it get's deleted and re-created then the "Deletion per previous deletion discussion" CSD will apply then to the second discussion unless it too is written like an advertisement. AngelOfSadness talk 12:37, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that makes sense. One of the things that always bugged me about A7 is that the article has to be substantially the same as the deleted version, but how are we supposed to compare it if we can't view the deleted article? Oh well.—Chowbok 14:31, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well admins can but a lot of the time what gets re-posted is the same as the deleted version (usually the same people trying to re-post the article too) so there's usually no problem with tagging. But there can be occasions such as these (were the newer article is twice the size of the original and makes it seem like the band isn't just some garage band self-releasing material) and I know how frustrating it can be if you can't view the deleted version and you're trying to tag the article appropriately but can't check. But these occasions don't happen to often so keep doing what you're doing :) AngelOfSadness talk 19:12, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I noticed that you deleted the user page for User:Wran. I'm trying to work out who or what I am dealing with there. Is the user on the talk page banned in some way or what? Any info would be welcome. Thanks. Eyeless in Gaza (talk) 22:51, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I deleted it because of vandalism done by a now indefinately blocked vandal (User:Blospa). The userpage didn't exist before the vandalism hence deletion. I don't believe the vandalism was related to User:Wran but I could be wrong. Sorry I can't be more of help. AngelOfSadness talk 22:54, 8 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MAHARASHTRA DURING TIMES OF SHIVAJI MAHARAJ

[edit]

"MAHARASHTRA DURING TIMES OF SHIVAJI MAHARAJ" should not have been speedily deleted because it was a good-faith attempt by the user to start a page about Shivaji I tried to redirect it to Shivaji but I messed it up. Just undelete and remove the tag. 72.137.97.65 (talk) 14:33, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I restored it. Sorry bout that. Would you like me to move the content of MAHARASHTRA DURING TIMES OF SHIVAJI MAHARAJ to Shivaji to merge the page history's? AngelOfSadness talk 14:36, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Actually nevermind the last sentence. Although the redirect isn't very plausible (because of typos etc) hence can be still grounds for speedy deletion. AngelOfSadness talk 14:41, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and deleted it per the CSD#R3 criteria. The other article exists so I'll just inform the good faith editor, who created this second page, of the other page if they want to edit that. But a redirect page in all caps is implausible hence deletion. AngelOfSadness talk 14:48, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Delcan

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you "prortected" the page Delcan due to repeated creation. I created this page, which was removed due to G11 guidlines and i edit the text to comply with G11. Can you tell me what specific items i need to change in order to comply qiht the G11 rule? YaniraKat (talk) 20:42, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Well there were many problems with the most recent revision: the article mostly read as a webpage for the company not an encyclopedic article because of it's list use instead of prose. Also the sections such as "Markets & Services", "Locations" (the addition of this also lead to the articles G11 deletion as this is content only suitable for a webpage). The "History" and "Projects" sections will nead to be written in prose that adhere to wikipedia's policy on neutral point of view and must be free of peacock terms (such terms are another reason why articles, such as yours, get deleted under g11). Citing the company website and wikipedia are not sources which constitute as third party, independent, reliable sources and such reliable sources are essential when backing up claims of notability. I suggest you read corporation articles such as the ones on Microsoft, BAE Systems and London Necropolis Company so you can get an idea of how a corporation article is to be written. Also if you need step by step guidance on article writing (it's your first so I would recommend it) you could use Article wizard. Many thanks. AngelOfSadness talk 22:34, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for declining the speedy deletion of this article. Note the editor who placed the deletion template previously vandalized the article; he seems to have more than an editorial interest. However, regarding your revision: Joe Corley is a pioneer of American karate and kickboxing. Note that he was a partner in the PKA, and therefore "instrumental in its success" seems a suitable description. The broadcasting deals he brokered brought kickboxing to the attention of the American public in the 1980s; without this I'm sure it would still be an obscure sport. There are commercial interests that tend to creep into this article, but I am in no way affiliated with Joe Corley. Pkeets (talk) 21:14, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Although that editor technically didn't vandalise though as what he didn't morso violated WP:NPOV and WP:BLP considering the source wasn't reliable. Although I'll keep an eye on them anyway. Re the article itself: the problem with the "instrumental in its success" part it matched the copyrighted article/website which was linked on the speedy deletion notice. I removed it so it would avoide being tagged for copyvio again hence adding it back in wouldn't be the best. Perhaps re-word it as I don't know much about the subject of the article hence am unsure of the wording that you want to use other than the matching phrase. That's fine but that happens with many articles so clear commerical interests are dealt with when they edit. (that's assuming that their edits are disruptive in some way or trying to push a particular POV) I have the article on my watchlist so I'll keep an eye on that too. AngelOfSadness talk 22:05, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of my latest contribution "Project'or RIA"

[edit]

Hi Angel Of Sadness,

first let me thank you, for your deeply commitment agains missuse of Wikipedia.

There are lot of open source initiative with same deep commitment as you did. One is "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dotproject", another is "Project'Or RIA". Dotproject is dealing with the same topic as Project'Or RIA communtiy, but with another approach.

It is very interessting, that dotprojects contribution is approved and my contribution is deleted. I set up my contribution page with nearly the same content as dotproject (and we know, dotproject is approved). And now you delete my contribution "Project'Or RIA". I'm sure you see, from an external perspective, it looks there are double standards applied.

To clarify my person. I have no commercial interest in this open souce product. I'm a convinced user of this product and contribute a lot of my privat lifetime to this project community.

I can't see any reason, why my contribution is deleted. And if there is a reason to delete, than you have to apply this to all contributions which dealing in the same field.

Thanks for your kind support.

Your article was deleted for not asserting the importance or significance of the subject and also was written with a slight advertising tone (using pronouns like "your" is used a lot in advertising not wiki articles): both were legitimate reasons to speedy delete your article. That other article has been here for years and I, personally, have never seen it before. I review articles on a case to case basis when they are tagged for deletion and I haven't read all 3 million article on wikipedia to see if they are all suitable as it's simply impossible. But, for your information, that other article is currently tagged for deletion (tagged for an AFD discussion deletion as it's been here for many years and there are multiple contributors in the page history).
The problem with this particular article is that it is on its fourth deletion in the last six months (different users re-created it) and was taken to articles for deletion and deleted via that process as the contributors of that discussion couldn't find any coverage in reliable sources to verify notability/significance. So I would suggest re-writing the article in your userspace and then submitting it to articles for creation as they will tell you if the article has fulfilled the necessary critera and if it is suitable for re-creation in the mainspace.
Although, for future reference, contesting the deletion of your article saying "but that article is the same therefore it must be deleted too" isn't very helpful (Wikipedia's arguments to avoid in deletion discussions RE:Individual merit of articles explains why very well). What is helpful is dealing with your article and its problems and how they can be fixed so they can avoid deletion in the future. After all a lot of us, myself included, are here to help and don't delete articles on a whim because we don't like it or something. We delete/not delete on a case-to-case basis per what is said in Wikipedia's guidelines. Many thanks. AngelOfSadness talk 18:28, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:AIV

[edit]

I do know that it is not vandalism, but where I can go (AN or ANI)? Most of time admins just block the IPs that change genres to avoid this (removal of factually correct content). Thank you for the reply. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:03, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The removal of factually correct content is vandalism hence why its ok to block the IPs for that, changing genres without discussing is more suited to Wikipedia:Dispute resolution (but moreso in more serious cases). Or if the same IP keeps repeatedly changing the same article genres over time Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring would be the place to go then (if they've changed to genre 3 times within a day). The best way (I've found in the past anyway) is to disuss the genres on the artists talkpage and if an IP changes against consensus and refuses to enter the talkpage discussion then ANI would be the place to go per Wikipedia:Disruptive_editing#Dealing_with_disruptive_editors. I've been in these situations before (different IPs changing genres against consensus) and I've found that most IPs only change the genres once or twice and give up. But when serial genre changers keep returning it's always best to put a nicely worded message explaining the discussion consensus, that they are invited to join the discussion but warn them that changing genres against consensus is disruptive (especially without citing sources). But if they ignore those messages then take them to ANI if they show no sign of communication/discussion of the genre changes or don't show any chance of stopping. Hopes this helps. Deleted Page "Q&As in Materials and Curriculum Development in TESOL"

[edit]

Dear Moderator AngelOfSadness,

I recently created a wikipedia page titled "Q&As in materials and curriculum development in TESOL." I apologize for apparently the page is not in conformity with Wikipedia's content guideline. I have not used wikipedia before and was not aware that the content has to be historically contextualized and coherent. The page I created is a class project for a graduate seminar I teach on materials and curriculum development in the teaching of English as a second language. One of the class requirements is that students write reading commentaries based on a set of selected readings each week. Students in the class have been asking good questions which I find useful to share with the whole class. I wanted to have a forum where all students can contribute to the questions raised by their classmates and this body of knowledge, I thought, is useful information to all in the fields of teaching ESL.

I am sorry if the project has not followed the publication guideline of wikipedia which I admit is due to my ignorance of how wikipedia works. I only now realized how much work it went into maintaining this vast body of online references.

I did spend many hours putting together this page that was deleted and, if not putting the page online for public editing, I was hoping that I could at least have the original copy of this page for my own record. Against all my good sense using the Internet, I have not saved a copy on my hard-drive.

Would you be able to provide me with a copy of the original page so that I can save it?

I would very much your understanding.

Pending changes removal on SDSU Show

[edit]

Hi AngelOfSadness. I wanted to let you know that I've removed pending changes protection from this article. PC was only deployed as a trial, and it was to be removed from all articles as of 20 May 2011 as a result of a recent RFC. The feature is currently mothballed, although the devs have purposely left it enabled here until the community has decided the issue for certain one way or the other. I would have preferred to notify you first, but I wasn't sure that you were currently available, and I think you would agree that this wasn't a particularly controversial action. Thanks, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 21:17, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok. I wasn't aware of it's trial only status hence I used it (multiple users kept inserting copyvio content into the article and the feature looked like it would help especially considering protecting the article to admin only seemed a bit strong). Thanks for informing me. AngelOfSadness talk 00:50, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

[edit]

Dear AngelOfSadness,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, were it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:07, 8 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Special Barnstar
Damnit, sister, it's about time I gave you a barnstar. For your general awesomeness, and your diligence against vandalism. Xterra1 06:01, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As a neutral editor, I did not believe the article qualified for a CSD A7 and removed the speedy tag. The article stated that she is a JAV Idol which is the Japanese term for porn star. Therefore it states her significance. This is a lower threshold than notability. If there is any question that she is not notable enough for inclusion, it should be done through the AfD process. Morbidthoughts (talk) 03:01, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I still attest that it did qualify for CSD A7 as being a porn star isn't a statement of her significance. It'd be like saying any article about a musician or scientist can't be deleted as being a musician/scientist is a statement of their significance when CSD A7's meaning of significance doesn't really work like that. "Significance" in CSD A7 is being used as a synonym for "importance "(which is also mentioned in CSD A7) as in "how does this article assert her importance/significance in this field?". The article didn't answer that question. The article just stated she was in that field of work and stating that she's in that field doesn't make her significant automatically therefore the article qualified for deletion under CSD A7. AngelOfSadness talk 16:55, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Strike that. Just looked at the deleted article again and there is a claim of significance (worked with h.m.p Japan) so i'll undelete it now (I admit I was a bit hasty in deleting it the first time). Although I will say that I still attain that being a JAV idol is still not a claim to significance by itself (the assertion to having worked with h.m.p Japan however is), the same way being a musician/scientist/blogger are not claims of significance either. Anyway, my apologies. AngelOfSadness talk 17:22, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I just contacted the admin who protected the article from being re-created (just trying to prevent problems from arising etc.) , so once I get the go ahead from them, I'll undelete it. AngelOfSadness talk 17:35, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nekrogoblikon page deletion

[edit]

Hello, AngelOfSadness!

T_Thrust here, also the frontman of the metal band Nekrogoblikon, which was deleted by you back in 2008. I would like to request that the page be remade. Since 2008, we have met every criteria for bands to appear on wikipedia.

(if significant new information has come to light since a deletion that would justify recreating the deleted page,)

I'm still new to the whole wikipedia system, so I'm not sure if this is the correct action to take.

Here is our music video, currently with 1,538,834 views since its release in September http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsMKOx6fumc

here are links to articles that qualify us for notability:

http://www.guitarworld.com/interview-nekrogoblikons-tim-lyakhovetskiy-and-alex-alereza

http://www.hailsandhorns.com/featuresandinterviews/nekrogoblikon-talk-about-choosing-their-name-the-no-one-survives-music-video-and-their-influences-outside-of-music/

http://www.metalsucks.net/tag/nekrogoblikon/

http://www.metalinjection.net/tv/view/10615/the-fix-90---top-10-videos-of-2012

That should be enough to get us notability.

I'm also going to send a message to the person who protected the article from being recreated, since I assume that is a necessary step.

Please let me know if there's anything I missed!

All the best, Nicky — Preceding unsigned comment added by T Thrust (talkcontribs) 21:54, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. Very sorry it's taken me this long to reply, I've been on a long wiki-break over most of the last year.
A few things about the links. 1) Youtube views don't really count towards as being an assertion of notability because Youtube views can be bought/faked and is not a true indicator of popularity/notability. (hence why youtube views aren't mentioned in the WP:MUSIC article) 2) First and third articles seem ok as sources and can be used in the article 3)The second and fourth article links either don't work or the articles have been removed. So either try and find other versions of those articles with links that work so I can check them to be used in the article, otherwise they can't be used as sources (need to be verifiable by anyone). 4) The coverage about the band on metalinjection that I can find is only trivial content (annoucements of tours, albums, press releases etc.) and thus can't be used as a source per the first critera of WP:BAND (unless non-trivial articles about the band are posted up on the website in the future). And so with only two usable reliable sources currently, the article still might get deleted if it's re-created. But if you have any other reliable independant coverage of the page, the page should survive deletion.
Also as you are the frontman of the band, it is highly discouraged that you or anyone connected to the band create the article due to a clear conflict of interest as it would cause the article to have a less than neutral point of view (and sometimes leads to articles sound like advertisements for the article subjects in question and thus get deleted). The only work around I can offer is that, once the sources have been improved and the admin who protected the article from re-creation gives the go ahead for the article to be unprotected, you create the article in your userspace at User:T Thrust/Nekrogoblikon, tell me when you're finished editing, I'll transfer it over to the mainspace and I'll edit it so that it's neutral in tone. Once that's done, you would still be discouraged from editing the mainspace version of the article due to conflict of interest and so any proposed edits should be added to the article's talkpage. I'll be watching both the article and the talkpage so I should see when you want to make additions. Hopefully this helps and again sorry for the late reply. AngelOfSadness talk 19:00, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
EDIT: The article has already been created at Nekrogoblikon (band) and appears to fit the WP:MUSIC guidelines. What I said in the final three sentences above, still applies. Anyway, all the best. AngelOfSadness talk 19:06, 8 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

improper deletion

[edit]
please restore and provide me with the content of my deleted page: 21:36, 7 January 2012 AngelOfSadness (talk | contribs) deleted page User:Wran (G3: Vandalism)

--Wran (talk) 23:41, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Very sorry I'm only replying to your query now, I was on a very long wiki-break. As far as I know, the only page I deleted belonging to you was your User page which was created/vandalised by a now blocked sockpuppet of a banned user. The only version of the page just contained a fair use picture - fair use pictures are are not allowed to be used within the wikipedia:namespace. And so it is for those two reasons why it was deleted as vandalism (technically, no improper deletion there). You are free to re-create your userpage at anytime and as long as it adheres to the guidelines of Wikipedia:User pages, there shouldn't be any problems.
