E-mail access

how do I request restoration of e-mail access? This is not an unblock request. That will come in July. I simply need to file a report. Thanks. Apteva (talk) 23:54, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
- You'd ask an admin, ideally one that knows more than I do as to why you were blocked. You can do that by pinging one. --I dream of horses If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{U|I dream of horses}} to your message. (talk to me) (contributions) @ 01:56, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

. I have also pinged the blocking Admin. I was blocked simply because I was trying to explain myself ("Using email to send me a long manifesto of condescending tripe" - and for that I apologize - it will not happen again). I dream of horses Apteva (talk) 02:46, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

- Really, really not intersted in having this discussion. I don't even want to know why you think you need to "file a report" with anyone, but if it's something you can't post on-wiki you can email WP:FUNCT or WP:OS or WP:CU or WP:ARBCOM as appropriate. They all have publicly posted email addresses that do not require access to Wikipedia's email system. Beeblebrox (talk) 05:55, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- Per Beeblebrox; any report that you wish to file will need to go to one of the four groups listed above, all of which can be emailed directly. There is no need for us to restore your email access. Closing adminhelp template. Yunshui 雲水 11:31, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- Using email directly is not as convenient. How long do I have to wait to have it restored? Is over two years not long enough? Apteva (talk) 15:50, 1 May 2015 (UTC)
- Email is no less of a process than logging into the English Wikipedia and then going through the internal email process. Blocks and characteristics of them are inherently inconvenient for the recipient. Restoring status or a portion thereof is not based on the grounds of convenience, especially when there's a very suitable alternate process that would not prevent you from accomplishing the same thing. If it's important enough to you, you will email, otherwise, your block and all aspects of it, remain intact. Mkdwtalk 18:59, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
- It does not appear that emailed requests are handled the same as ones that come through the system. Normally when I report something through the system I get a speedy response. The one that I emailed was not responded to for ages. So it is not just convenience, it is so that the report can be acted on in a timely manner. Apteva (talk) 07:32, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- Chiming in here. I can speak from experience here that normal emails are handled just as quickly normally. I had an oversight block placed on my account which involved me having to email the BASC mailing list to get unblocked. I got a response within 24 hours and was unblocked in 48 hours. Who did you email?—cyberpowerChat:Online 14:56, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- In general it had been my impression that was the case, but that became dubious when I wrote to arbcom-audit-en@lists.wikimedia.org on April 30 and received no reply until May 16. One or two days I can understand, but over two weeks? Is there an enormous backlog at that address? Apteva (talk) 16:54, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
- Probably. It can happen. We currently have a 12 day backlog at ACC.—cyberpowerChat:Online 17:13, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
- I just found this message on Commons. "The Oversight mailing list is experiencing very high levels of spam and the list of emails awaiting moderation is very high."[1] Apteva (talk) 07:28, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
- Happens on ACC too. I moderate that list.—cyberpowerChat:Online 08:24, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

3rd unblock request
Apteva (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
It has been about two years since I have not been able to freely participate here, so I have found other ways to help the project, mostly creating and translating SVGs. I will continue spending almost all of my time doing that but would slowly like to re-enter editing Wikipedia, using the standard offer. I have been spending probably about 1000 hours a year helping make Wikipedia better. I have created over 100 articles and over 500 images and diagrams. Some of these diagrams need to be included here to replace the older diagrams that they replace, like the diagram at the top of Energy in the United States, which still shows 2007 data. It will be several years more before I do anything here other than a small number of simple edits, and will proceed cautiously, in a manner that does not upset anyone here. That is not why I am here. I am here only and solely to make Wikipedia better. There are about 200 simple edits that I know of that can be done, and I typically come across 3 or 4 new ones each week or month, and would like to be able to click "edit" when I find them, instead of adding them to the backlog. One of the items I noticed was in an article that was viewed 6 million times more before someone else noticed it and fixed it. There is a backlog of over 6,000 SVGs that need to be created, and another over 6,000 that need to be translated, both of which I am working through, but if you see one that you want done, give me a shout and I will take a look at it. Thanks.
Accept reason:
Following your request, I'm unblocking your account on a WP:ROPE basis. PhilKnight (talk) 21:02, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
@AGK: - would you object to an unblock? PhilKnight (talk) 20:37, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- No objection to unblocking, and no objection to the appellant remaining blocked. Do what you think best Phil. Thanks, AGK [•] 01:06, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Policy discussion in progress
There is a policy discussion in progress at the Manual of Style which affects the capitalization of Sounds Like Teen Spirit, People Like Us, &c., questions in which you previously participated. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. — LlywelynII 11:59, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

- I always thought an indef was an overreactive "solution" to your WP:AT / WP:MOS issues, and would rather have seen a topic-ban. I'm impressed that you kept doing so much work for the project (in a non-socky way, of course) under such an excessive and punitive burden. — SMcCandlish ☺ ☏ ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ᴥⱷʌ≼ 08:35, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. My long delay in returning was caused by getting involved in translations and creation of svgs. With a backlog of more than 6,000 of each I had no shortage of work to do. But I got started doing one file that required over 7,000 translations, and did not want to get distracted from finishing it, so have not even looked at this page since requesting the unblock. I just wanted to be unblocked when I was able to return, and now I have a list of maybe 200 edits that have been waiting, which having finished the 7,650 translations, I will be able to get started on. After I finish those, most of my time will still be spent on creation and translation of svgs, but if you have anything specific you would like to have me look at I am always willing to help. I will be requesting a standard offer so that all restrictions will be removed. For a number of years I have been spending about 1000 hours a year on Wikipedia and being blocked did not change that, it just meant helping in different ways that did not involve editing here. For the record there has not been one edit made to enwiki since the block (other than of course to my own talk page). Apteva (talk) 22:34, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your work. Just noticed your other message to me on the Commons about this great chart: File:Oecd-healthexp-percapita.svg. I have been away from Wikipedia and the Commons a lot the last few months. --Timeshifter (talk) 05:22, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for April 24
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Davidson County Solar Farm, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Davidson County. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

An other CfR discussion for US city categories
There's a new Categories for Renaming discussion going on about categories of US cities listed in the AP Stylebook. As you have participated in at least one of the more recent discussions in the subject, you may want to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2016 August 17#Seattle. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 20:32, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks but I have no interest. I am sure that someone else will sort it out and like before those who disagree will just ignore the result. Sadly. Apteva (talk) 03:54, 25 August 2016 (UTC)
A discussion you may be interested in
I have just made a new nomination for renaming categories for those U.S cities where the article doesn't include the state name. Since you participated in a recent discussion about this, you may want to express your opinion at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2016 September 6#Major US cities. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 16:15, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
Standard greeting
Note to all editors. Feel free to use this and customize it to your hearts content. Please leave a link if you see something that needs to be changed, and please first take out the parenthetical "some of it I wrote" if you can not find at least one word that you know that you added to one of the articles linked from the welcome message, and of course make sure the welcome message does appear on that users talk page. Also feel free to make a template out of this with options that will customize it for certain types of users, etc. My goal is not to get rid of bad editors but to help everyone become a good editor. You will probably have to take out the bit about getting edits to stick or reword it if none of your friends have mentioned this. People who have been blocked need something to do other than fume, and helping them learn to edit usefully can take considerable time. Often editors in their early teens simply lack the maturity to edit productively and will grow out of it as they mature.
- Greetings. Your current block will be expiring in a couple of days and I would like to reach out to you to see what I can do to help you become a quality editor for Wikipedia. Before you respond anywhere, please take the time to read all of the content of each of the links in the Welcome message above (some of what you will read was added by me). There is a learning curve to learn how to even be an acceptable editor, and in talking with my friends the most common comment they have made is they finally made an edit that was not reverted. The reason for that is simple. It is the wishes of the roughly 3,000 regular editors of Wikipedia, myself included, to create a world class encyclopedia and related other references, that will be a powerful resource for all to use. So lets say you as an expert on a subject know something, and want to add it, or as anyone, wish to make any edit, or see anything that needs to be added, changed, or removed.
- The first question to ask, is is it verifiable? Can you provide a link or reference to a book where the rest of us can check what you have added to verify that it was entered correctly, and does not transpose a number or something like that.
- The second question is is it relevant? Is this the best article where this information should be added? Is this the best place in this article? Is this the best way to provide this information? All of us are here to help you in that and will quickly revert any mistakes. But that takes up our time and we will give you a "time out" as you have seen, if we see that one or more of your edits does not fit. As a wiki anyone can edit, and all edits are saved, although some can be permanently deleted if needed.
- The third question to ask is is the language appropriate? Is it collegiate? Does it belong in an encyclopedia that is being read by everyone from the first grade through post graduate study?
- This is not by any means the only project you can contribute to and if English is not your native language I would strongly recommend starting out in the sister project of your native language of which we have roughly 200 and keep adding more. Those encyclopedias tend to need a lot more editors than this one. And the rules for each can be slightly different, although for the most part are very similar. All new user accounts are SUL accounts, meaning you can log into any of them using your same username and password. We also have projects like Wiktionary for dictionary entries, Wikibook for books, and Commons for pictures and graphics.
- After you have read everything in each of the Welcome links, and if you are not blocked, I welcome you to try to learn how to make edits that will "stick" and become useful knowledge for all to see. Cheers. ~~~~
