Uploading Files (Answer to your question from my talk page)
[edit]Hi Arantz! Thanks for asking your question. Can I suggest you practice in the Sandbox until you get the hang of things? To add an image, see the instructions below:
For uploading pictures and other media, it's easiest to go to Wikimedia Commons (you can use your Wikipedia credentials if you're not logged in already) and visit the Upload Wizard. Wikimedia Commons can only accept files which anyone can use for any purpose. That means most content you find on the web is not acceptable. But for example, most photos that you've taken yourself are OK to upload.
Here's a screenshot of the Upload Wizard:
You start by selecting the files you want to upload, then you go step by step through the process. In the final step, you'll get some wiki markup that you can copy into a Wikipedia article. You can also use {{Help me}} template on your user talk page for any matter that requires urgent help. For more details and information I recommend you to read Wikipedia:Uploading images and understand it before uploading images or other kinds of files here on English Wikipedia. Regards and Happy Editing! TheGeneralUser (talk) 17:06, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Protest on Baghramyan avenue for Vahe Avetyan.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Protest on Baghramyan avenue for Vahe Avetyan.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. ☼ 13:00, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 11
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Death of Vahe Avetyan, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Armenian and Doctor (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Protest on Baghramyan avenue for Vahe Avetyan.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Protest on Baghramyan avenue for Vahe Avetyan.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:14, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
Armenian matters
[edit]I can tell you are, quite reasonably, passionate about Armenian matters. One of the problems with passion is one does not always create one;s best work in the area one is passionate about. An example is the picture I removed from the article about the death of a doctor. Ignoring anything about its copyright (etc) status, it must have a valid place in the article in order to be present. That it it needs to be referred to, ideally with a citation. We don;t use photographs to illustrate articles unless they are directly relevant to a matter in the text of the article.
One way of solving this is or you or another editor to enhance the text of the article to embrace the picture. At that point it becomes valid.
I see one citation in that article is to a picture on Commons. I understand why you have done this, but it is unusual. Is there a way of referring to a document held elsewhere, not necessarily one that is online?
I hope you find these suggestions helpful. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 12:37, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for your attention, but I have nothing to tell you. I do what I do. Guess a picture won't make much trouble, but I don't insist on it. And about citation, the thing is unusual, but not unsourced. Arantz (talk) 12:52, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
- I hope you don't find my thoughts in any way combative. If you can make the picture a useful part of the article please do so. You will not find any complaints from me. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 13:04, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
- Never mind, all's right. Thanks. Arantz (talk) 19:45, 13 October 2012 (UTC)
