Wallace Hartley

I would love to edit it, but I lack interest in it. All I did was just re-arranging and recovering bits and pieces. I'm not a historian expert on Titanic and its history. Doing Wikidata stuff, and it just pairing up the articles where they exist on other wikis. Come off it PamD, notable people, and we do allow stubs. SOPA discussion question

Hello! I'm writing an undergraduate thesis on the SOPA blackout, and I have a quick question about your role as closing admin. How did you become designated as the closing admin of the discussion? Were you chosen, or did you volunteer? Are there any discussions or talk page archives that mention this decision? Edge3 (talk) 08:22, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

I was asked whether I wished to assist. Why me? Mainly due to not having been heavily involved in the debate (so I was seen to have a level of NPOV, a WP tenet); after that (and now this is my guess) probably parts of geographic diversity (a non-US voice); partly for my knowledge of this community (being an admin here, and assessing community discussions); and partly for my experience outside of this community (admin elsewhere), and expressing an opinion (my involvement in the broader WMF), and trusted by the community (advanced administrative rights). I was last one in of three, which is why I express why I was selected in the latter parts.I was approached by someone who had a long WP exposure, is well-versed, well-respected within and trusted by the community. I am guessing that this question is being asked of the three of us closing admins, so I will let each of them speak for themselves.

Archives of the approach, I am presuming you mean the selection, not our discussions about the consensus? Hmm, I don't remember the exact approach. Quite possible it was in IRC, though it may have been in email. It wasn't done on wiki as it was thought best to avoid lobbying.
