Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]Hello, CGxoxo. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Draft:Together Price, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest § How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam § External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:36, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your advice. I have included the COI disclosure. I have no affiliation with the company and not paid to edit. However, helping a friend who is somehow associated. Thank you. CGxoxo (talk) 02:29, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

The page Sazali Samad has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done for the following reason:
G5: Created by a banned or blocked user (Bmjc98) in violation of ban or block

Dear admins, Thank you so much for flagging my account to alert me of my wrongdoings. I realise now that I shouldn't have done what I did, and it pains me that my Sazali Samad article has also been removed, more painful than the banning of my account. To give you context, I met Sazali at an event in my hometown in Ipoh. He's a celebrated figure in my country, Malaysia, and has an inspiring story in his bodybuilding journey. I came home and tried to read more about his background on Wikipedia, but couldn't find it. I subsequently found it in Bahasa Melayu, which is my national language. So I decided that I should get it translated. I was excited because I recently rediscovered my Wikipedia account, which is 15 years old and has stayed dormant since the early days of editing. I asked my friend to help guide me, not on the translation but on the process of getting my translated piece published and linked to the Malay article. As I said, it was quite a learning curve and amid the process over the days, I was asked if I could help publish a short article. I agreed, without knowing that it violated Wikipedia's terms of use. When the piece was declined, I thought nothing of it but was later asked to help edit and resubmit. Meanwhile, I was happy that my article on Sazali Samad was live, and had planned to translate the updated information from English for the Malay version, as that is outdated, without his latest development in the sport. I would like to appeal the release of my account, and would be very grateful if my Sazali Samad article is reinstated. I didn't keep a copy of my work, so I'm sad that I have lost it due to me foolishly agreeing to help a friend out. Thank you very much for your time. Again, I apologise and promise that I will keep my Wikipedia account pure and productive moving forward. Thank you.
Decline reason:
Not enough information here to review the block. You say, "I was asked if I could help publish a short article" but you don't say what that article was or who asked you. You also indicate you translated a page. Presumably, the page you translated was Sazali Samad and if so, that raises serious WP:COPYRIGHT concerns. I can't see where you disclosed this. Request reason:
Dear Admin, Good day! My apology for having missed out on crucial information in my earlier appeal. Because my account doesn't have much content, and since everything is tracked, I thought it was understood. 1. The person who asked me for the favor of publishing her article was bmjc98. She is my virtual friend whom I "met" on another platform. I did not know her ID on Wikipedia and didn't even know how to check her profile/contributions on Wikipedia. It did not cross my mind that she couldn't publish it herself because she was banned - if I knew that she had violated the terms of use, I definitely wouldn't want to put myself in the same shoes or jeopardize my account. My account, although old (15 years) does not have much content. As I have mentioned, I only rediscovered my contributor account recently, even though I use/read Wikipedia almost daily. When I was setting up my Sazali Samad (English) article, I faced a lot of issues, and bjmc98 was my go-to person. I later realized that one of the reasons it was so difficult for me was my account did not automatically get updated with the new visual editor feature - I had to enable it in Settings. As bjmc98 was my "sifu/master", I thought nothing of returning the favor by helping her publish her piece [Together Price]. I was not paid in any way. It didn't even occur to me that people are willing to pay for Wikipedia pages. 2. With the Sazali Samad article, I did not realize that I had violated the copyright of the Malay language contributor. First, I wasn't taught that (by bmjc98). Also, I had thought that since Wikipedia is a user-contribution project where everyone chips in with public information to build a page, there was no "copyright" to a specific contributor. I did not translate word for word, and I did link the English piece to the Malay version. However, now that I know of my copyright violation, please grant me the chance to correct my wrong to include the disclaimer. I may not know how to do it right now, but I will read up and do my research, rather than just ask a single person. Thank you very much for your time and patience. Once again, I apologize for my oversight. 😭

- (Non-administrator comment) So have I understood correctly, you're arguing that you shouldn't have been blocked as a sockpuppet, because you're technically rather a meatpuppet? -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 07:38, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi Daniel, I saw it but don't know if I should respond or not, as it's a non-administrative comment. I didn't want to seem like I keep bombarding with reasons and then kept getting shot at. Please understand that all these terms are new to me and every time something is raised, I search for the meaning. While I do wish that my account is restored, this situation is out of my control. So, I just leave its faith to the mercy of Wikipedia admins. Thank you for your time, and keeping my appeal alive.

Please concisely and clearly describe what you did to get blocked, what you'd do different, and what constructive edits you'd make. Co-ordinating with others off Wiki or editing at the behest of someone is a form of sock puppetry. Thanks-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 01:17, 11 January 2024 (UTC)

Hi Deepfriedokra, Thank you for giving me a chance to appeal again. In summary, straight to the point to reply your questions - I was asked to publish a Wiki page, and I did it. Obviously, I will never do this again, and get my profile banned forever. Moving forward: - I will probably focus more on editing, rather than publishing new pages. - I had thought of translating Malay pages to English. I did it with the Sazali Samad page but it has been removed for copyright violation. If I translate in future, I will make sure that I give credit where it is due. Did not know earlier that Wiki pages are copyrighted. I had thought that since Wikipages are community contributions, no one actually owns the rights. Thank you so much!

- Thank you so, so much!!! Phew ~ what a learning curve this has been.
- I definitely will only contribute positively to Wikipedia from now on.
- I am looking forward to seeing my Sazali Samad page live again, with attribution, this time! CGxoxo (talk) 01:41, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: OK to unblock? -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:09, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes. And to the editor, it's more accurate to say that while wiki pages are indeed copyrighted, we use a copyright regime that is more copyleft, really, allowing unlimited reproduction and reuse, but still requiring attribution and being reused under the same conditions. Daniel Case (talk) 22:02, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you and thank you for your clarification.
- I hope my Sazali Samad page in English can be restored. I will make sure to include the attribution.
- I swear that it's not a paid page, or that I was asked to publish it by anyone.
- I met him in real life, was inspired by his illustrious career and tried to search for his Wikipedia page to read up further.
- Finding no English page, but only the Malay version, I took it upon myself to translate it. CGxoxo (talk) 23:35, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
